PSL Match Report Moroka Swallows stun Platinum Stars 1-0

Posted: 1 April 2014 Time: 19:11

Moroka Swallows claimed their second Absa Premiership win in 11 matches after a 1-0 victory over Platinum Stars on Tuesday evening.

READ: Minute-by-minute live commentary, as it happened
Felix Obada scored the only goal of the encounter at Royal Bafokeng Stadium to lift the Dobsonville outfit up to 10th on the log.
The opportunity to move fourth on the log standings was available for Platinum Stars, had they walked away with maximum points, while Swallows were fighting for their lives.
A chance was immediately created by the home side when Mogakolodi Ngele struck an effort from range that sailed narrowly wide of goal.
The Botswana international then got his next effort straight on target when he fired a left-footed drive on 13 minutes, but it was easy pickings for Greg Etafia.
Ten minutes later Mduduzi Nyanda broke down the right flank to put in a cross that Sibusiso Hadebe was just unable to reach.
Chances were then squandered at either end just before the half-hour mark, with both Siyabonga Nomvete and Ngele firing their efforts wide of their respective targets.
It was so nearly 1-0 to Stars heading into the interval when Gift Sithole did well to break through the backline, beat three players, and supply a cross from the right flank. His diagonal ball found Siphelele Mthembu, who headed his effort just wide of goal.
Allan Freese was forced into making a double substitution at the restart with both Nyanda and Hadebe coming off due to injury, seeing Thabani Mthembu and Mahlatsi Makudubela both come on.
The Dube Birds did manage to snatch the lead on 55 minutes when Felix Obada received a pass from Tshwarelo Bereng, turned on the ball and fired a low drive into the bottom-left corner of the goal from the edge of the area.
The lead could have been doubled by Nomvete when he did well to create some space and unleash a powerful drive that went just wide of Siyabonga Mpontshane’s goal.
Parity was nearly restored 15 minutes from time when Thabani Mthembu connected with a set-piece and nodded it back towards goal, however, it sailed just wide of the back post.
More misery haunted Stars in the closing stages of the game as they were reduced to 10 men following an injury to Ngele, as Man of the Match Lefa Tsutsulupa found Lerato Chabangu, who cracked a snapshot that sailed just wide of goal.

Welldone birds finally you got a win. It took so long...we need strong birds to give competition to pirates, chiefs and sundowns. With the likes of wits, supersport and platinum starts improving things can only be better for the psl as far as competition is concerned

Oh thanks god for this loser of a coach Marques getting a ' lucky win ' even with them deserving it. To his knowledge no shots on target is dominating your opponents and he says that them ( bucs ) who had 4 shots of which 3 should've been clear goals was lucky to win the game, really! Geewhiz what a crybaby, just pathetic! I'm really pleased he got a win so that he can stop whining and shut the hell up, loser! Once and always bucs.

The biggest mistake that these Dikwena of Rustenburg do is thinking that beating Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates is an achievement... They go all out when playing Chiefs and Pirates, but fail to do so when playing others... What a useless team they are!

You forget one thing that you final losers team handled the ball in the area and your referee and assistant turned a blind eye. You never heard our coach complaining about that - flood light robbery. So stop talking crap. You need to be fair when commenting; fair to yourself as well.
