Bidvest Wits Polokwane City PSL

Posted: 9 March 2014 Time: 17:38

Bidvest Wits continued their good run of form with a 3-1 win against Polokwane City at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Jabulani Shongwe, Papy Faty and Sthembiso Ngcobo scored for the Clever Boys, while City’s consolation goal came from defender Vukile Mngqibisa.

Wits enjoyed more of the ball early on and generally pinned the hosts back, but striker Ngcobo was given little in the way of quality service.

But just before the half-hour mark Siyabonga Nhlapo chased down a ball near the corner flag and provided a good cut back for Shongwe, who stepped past a couple of weak challenges before placing a shot into the back of the net via the inside of the post.

Ten minutes before halftime Wits captain Sibusiso Vilakazi earned his side a penalty kick when he was brought down by a clumsy lunge from Vukile Mngqibisa. Faty duly converted the spot-kick to make it 2-0 in the 36th minute.

The visitors extended their lead in first half injury time, with Ngcobo scoring a spectacular overhead-kick from a Vilakazi knockdown.

Polokwane were given a lifeline five minutes into the second half when Phumlani Ntshangase was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box and a penalty was awarded. Mngqibisa converted the spot-kick.

There was precious little goalmouth action towards the latter stages of the match as Wits settled for the three points that moves them to within six points of log leaders Kaizer Chiefs.

We don't need to worry about Wits wins, we just need to concentrate on our own games and beat Wits when we meet them and they will be off our backs for good.

True Bakaniya. Remember his comments 2 weeks back when he said that at one stage when he won the league Downs were 15 points clear? I am not sure if Thiefs fans disregarded that comments or they picked up something from it...so if they did understand him they should be concerned. Mind you Wits are sitting at 36 points whilst Thiefs at 43 points and the former with a game in hand.

No doubt if you have a clue about football you'll know that Thiefs are worried about Wits even if they won't admit it. If they slip on Wednesday...! We all know what happens in RB Sports Palace

TollybaThathe  KC never cheated to be where they are, the fact that they are there it means their are good, infact if u infront u dont have to worry about what is behind u, they already slipped even those who are behind us, so if we slip it doesnt matter because we stay on top.... mind you thats not a fluk, Platinum stars we beat in the league and they knocked us out in the Cup, they are far behind on the llog, i wonder who is more worried right now, is the 1 who fighting for top 8 or is the 1 who is 6 point clear with less games.... please be patient we will loose 1 day #Khosi4LIFE

SphaMtolo Glamour Boy  I like the fact that it is no longer one team race now, Chiefs can feel the heat. The difference of 6 points will add more pressure to Chiefs to win against Platinum Stars in Phokeng of which we all know it is not going to be easy and might open up Chiefs at the back where Ngele if given a small chance can kill any goalkeeper in the world.

I cant wait for this game.

Stigaman we Khosi  Pirates is not consistent but i dont see Chiefs winning that game. The best they will get is a draw if not a lose.
