Premier Soccer League match report SuperSport United 1-3 Maritzburg United

Posted: 2 April 2014 Time: 18:57

Goals from Heinrich Isaacks, David Booysen and Terrance Mandaza secured Maritzburg United’s first league win over SuperSport United in 16 meetings between the sides since the 2005/2006 season.

The Team of Choice came from behind to beat Matsatsantsa 3-1 in an Absa Premiership encounter at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The game got off to a flying start with Orlando Smeekes missing a sitter before Bradley Grobler opened the scoring early on.

Ronwen Williams failed dismally in his attempt to clear from danger from outside his area, Smeekes was quick to pounce on the loose ball, but the Maritzburg winger somehow guided his effort wide with an open net lurking.

Smeekes immediately felt the effect of his miss as Grobler produced an exquisite first-time finish from a Thuso Phala cross to open the scoring in the eighth minute.

Enocent Mkhabela’s powerful effort from range was superbly kept out by Virgil Vries before Isaacks levelled matters in the 22nd minute. Neat inter-play by Ashley Hartog and Kurt Lentjies presented the midfielder with a tap in, he duly obliged, nodding in to square things up.

David Booysen made the score 2-1 five minutes later. The Team of Choice centre-back latched onto a precise corner-kick by Bongolethu Jayiya to give the visitors the lead at the break.

The hosts squandered a procession of chances before Mandaza wrapped things up in the 84th minute. The Maritzburg forward played a neat one-two with Hartog before slipping the ball past Williams.

This is bad news for pirates. Supersport will come all guns blazing this weekend. They need a top 8 finish and is currently under threat. I see another loss for VV.

Cavin Johnson is still wet behind the eyes, his team plays the most boring football ever yet he always preaches carpet football on the media. His team plays "unorthodox" football like chuck norris's chiefs "javelin style" football. Ronwen Williams is an overrated cow, mkhabela, fransman, ndlovu, diof are all unoiled cow robots.

this league is too weak. A team with 34 points is supposed to be fighting relegation. In our league it's in top8.

This means should Golden Arrows buys the following players will be winning alone with 10 games remaining.
