Goals in either half from Khama Billiat and Anthony Laffor saw Mamelodi Sundowns beat Golden Arrows 2-0 in their Premiership clash at Loftus Versveld.
The result, combined with SuperSport United’s 1-0 loss to Kaizer Chiefs, also on Wednesday night, sees Sundowns up to second on the table on 28 points.
The Brazilians are closely followed by AmaZulu on 27 points and SuperSport on 26, but are a massive 11 points behind league leaders Kaizer Chiefs.
Arrows, on the other hand, find themselves at the other end of the table as they prop up the Premiership. The side from Durban are stone last with ten points, three behind Free State Stars in 15th place.
Arrows never really threatened on the night as Sundowns controlled the match from the word go.
The Brazilians opened the scoring early on as Khama Billiat headed home from 14-yards out after getting onto the end of a Bryce Moon cross from the right.
Billiat continued to be a thorn in the side of the Arrows defence with shots on goal in the 17th and 26th minute, but both narrowly missed the target.
Arrows only real chance of the half came in the 35th minute when Deon Hotto’s cross was met by Rudolph Bester, but his header was a poor one and off target.
The second 45 saw Sundowns quickly double their lead after Anthony Laffor, who had only been on the field for a minute, made no mistake when left with just the keeper to beat. He was put through on goal by Elias Pelembe and he calmly slotted home, 2-0.
Any chance of an Arrows fight back was cut slim in the 63rd minute when Manti Moholo was sent for an early shower after receiving his second yellow card.
Sundowns took their foot off the pedal after that and held on for a comfortable win.
