Sundowns go second on log

Posted: 5 February 2014 Time: 19:20

Goals in either half from Khama Billiat and Anthony Laffor saw Mamelodi Sundowns beat Golden Arrows 2-0 in their Premiership clash at Loftus Versveld.

The result, combined with SuperSport United’s 1-0 loss to Kaizer Chiefs, also on Wednesday night, sees Sundowns up to second on the table on 28 points.

The Brazilians are closely followed by AmaZulu on 27 points and SuperSport on 26, but are a massive 11 points behind league leaders Kaizer Chiefs.

Arrows, on the other hand, find themselves at the other end of the table as they prop up the Premiership. The side from Durban are stone last with ten points, three behind Free State Stars in 15th place.

Arrows never really threatened on the night as Sundowns controlled the match from the word go.

The Brazilians opened the scoring early on as Khama Billiat headed home from 14-yards out after getting onto the end of a Bryce Moon cross from the right.

Billiat continued to be a thorn in the side of the Arrows defence with shots on goal in the 17th and 26th minute, but both narrowly missed the target.

Arrows only real chance of the half came in the 35th minute when Deon Hotto’s cross was met by Rudolph Bester, but his header was a poor one and off target.

The second 45 saw Sundowns quickly double their lead after Anthony Laffor, who had only been on the field for a minute, made no mistake when left with just the keeper to beat. He was put through on goal by Elias Pelembe and he calmly slotted home, 2-0.

Any chance of an Arrows fight back was cut slim in the 63rd minute when Manti Moholo was sent for an early shower after receiving his second yellow card.

Sundowns took their foot off the pedal after that and held on for a comfortable win.

Too much rugby passes, very little attacking intent. Game won but that loss against Zebra was better.

Ball possession without purpose. Attack please Sundowns stop relying on this smash and grab. Add some ooomph on Saturday

Thanks boys. Keep that momentum and spirit, forward we go, no more turning back. We've to beat rats on both two coming games if we want to win the league. I believe you'll do that. Pitso must not lose focus and change things around. Then I see us collecting maximum points.

Strange lineup from the coach,he's lucky we got the goals because to be honest we were very poor.we lacked intensity and urgency.he better come with a better strategy against pirates or I see him hitting the road sooner than he thought.we can't just show up for matches without showing any aggression. And it's time Malajila gets a rest in favor of Ramagalela.Malajila ke kgomo he reminds me of Mphela.

I agree with you fully! we are somewhat too casual at times and we should be punishing these teams in all honesty! I hope we will be more aggressive and clinical come Saturday

I am worried about this over rated Cuthbert Malajila's strike rate it is obvious now that he is not the regular scorer but he gets a lot of game time, the less said about Dove Wome the better, if I was the coach I wuold'nt have buy him having Laffor, Pelembe,Themba Zwane,Jabulani Shongwe,Lebogang Mokoena,Thami Sangweni and Musa Nyatama in my team really Pitso is not the coach time will tell.
