SuperSport United vs Tuks

Posted: 31 January 2014 Time: 19:40

Lebohang Manyama scored the only goal of the game as SuperSport United beat University Pretoria in the Tshwane derby at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Manyama got the only goal of the half on nine minutes, heading home a pinpoint cross from youngster Skhumbuzo Mazibuko.

SuperSport made three changes to the side that lost to AmaZulu in midweek. Dino Ndlovu and youngster Dean Brandon made their full debuts for the club, while Sameehg Doutie recovered from injury to take his place in the starting XI.

Thato Mokeke, who joined from Ajax Cape Town on deadline day, was named among the substitutes.

AmaTuks coach Steve Barker included two debutants in his starting XI. Youngster Thabo Mnyamane partnered Geofrey Massa in attack, while loanee Raymond Monama started in midfield.

Both sides looked threatening early on, but it was the hosts who opened the scoring through Manyama in the ninth minute. Skhumbuzo Mazibuko did some good work down the left before playing a precise ball into the area for the former Ajax Cape Town man to head home.

The Tshwane duo tried their best to play an attacking game, but were often hampered by the atrocious weather at Lucas Moripe.

With the rain continuing to poor down, set-pieces were going to cause the opposition defence a lot of problems, and so it proved.

Geofrey Massa’s powerful free-kick just cleared Ronwen Williams’s crossbar in the 54th minute, before the goalie was saved by Mor Diouf after spilling the ball from a curling Charly Moussono-Moussono free-kick a few minutes later.

Aupa Moeketsi was sent off for a dangerous tackle on Ronald Ketjijere in the 67th minute but, despite their one man disadvantage, SuperSport continued to create chances and went close through Dino Ndlovu in the 75th minute.

A long ball from deep found Washington Arubi in no-man’s land; Ndlovu pounced and looked certain to score, but AmaTuks skipper Tebogo Monyai made a superb covering tackle to deny the former Maccabi Haifa striker.

AmaTuks continued to press, with Bevan Fransman notably clearing a close-range effort off the line in the dying minutes of the match.

United are 10 points behind pacesetters Kaizer Chiefs, who beat Moroka Swallows 2-0 in Dobsonville.

How glad I am that Manyama never joined Chiefs, not their material.

SirAshwinParker  I don't think that game should be seen as a character test for the team that's sitting 10 points above  SSP. How?

LeTsatsantsaVWK  He has a funny shaped head, he doesn't fit into the "Glamour Boys" catorgory.

Serously, I don't see what was the fuss about him, he's just an average PSL player.
