PSL match report: Platinum Stars vs Orlando Pirates

Posted: 16 December 2013 Time: 15:11

After a first-half blitz Orlando Pirates got the revenge they were looking for with a 3-0 win over Platinum Stars today.

Goals from Thandani Ntshumayelo, Oupa Manyisa and Dlaine Klate, all scored in the first half-hour of the game, went some way in restoring Pirates' pride, after their two cup final losses to Dikwena this season.

Stars were never in the game, lacked their usual intensity and were comfortably second best against a rampant Pirates, who were inspired by Kermit Erasmus up front.

Bucs might have been ahead inside two minutes when Ayanda Gcaba headed over the bar from Manyisa's cross, but they did not have to wait long for their opener.

Sifiso Myeni played in Erasmus with a great ball and the latter crossed to the back post for Ntshumayelo to turn home.

Erasmus then had the ball in the back of the net, but it was wrongly ruled out for offside.

Pirates soon did have their second though, Manyisa scoring after Erasmus found space on the left and provided an excellent square-ball for the midfielder to turn home.

Klate made it 3-0 with another fine move and again Erasmus was the provider. His run terrorised the Stars defence and he then laid on the perfect ball into the path of Klate to side-foot past Siyabonga Mpontshane in the home goal.

The unlucky Erasmus came close to a goal when he was played one-on-one with Mpontshane, but his poked effort at goal was blocked by the goalkeeper and eventually trickled just wide.

Next up for Pirates is a meeting with University of Pretoria at Orlando Stadium on Thursday, while Stars will finish their 2013 programme with an away trip to Ajax Cape Town on Saturday night.

Pirates have to go all out and beat this small team. If they don't, then they must at least draw. In fact, Roger De Sa has to do whatever it takes to win the game. If it means playing badly to win the game, then so be it. I am tired of seeing a small team making a big team their daily bread, the so called hudoo or whatever it is. Goodluck Bucs, but Kaizer Chiefs is my favourite team of all time.

kenzo bucs .... Bhakaniya, ungasho kanjalo.I really could do with a win for ghost. DeSa will go whether we win or loose. wena, just leave that huge ticking time bomb deceison to the Iron Duke. At least the 3 pts will bring back the hope and dignity that we lost to these Crocodiles. 1 goal is just not enough. To win, we need more than this beautiful easy goal. Asibangene....!

It's great to see the the Greater Rustenburg branch livening up the sound atmosphere with song and dance. Pirates' recent away trips have left me flat broke. I still feel bitter over that. nx. they better win. hehehe.
