Platinum Stars down Al Ahly

Platinum Stars beat Egyptian side Al Ahly 2-1 in a Caf Champions League, second round, first leg match played at Super Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Stars goals were scored by Koketso Mmotong and Edward Williams while Emad Moteab scored for Al Ahly.

The home side dominated the match especially during the first half and should have scored at least twice, the ball being cleared off the goalline at one stage.

In the second half the Egyptian side brought on Naby Ibrahim and he made a huge difference to his side.

In the 56th minute Stars took the lead when Hareaipha Marumo passed the ball in the direction of Mmotong, a defensive error allowed Mmotong to score with a close range shot.

The equalizer was scored by a header from Emad Moteab after receiving a cross from the left in the 81st minute.

The winner came in the 88th minute when Marumo sent through a quality pass for Edward Williams to score with a shot.

The second leg of the tie in Cairo in two weeks time will decide who goes through to the group stages of the Champions League, the loser drops into the Confederation Cup.

Koos it was premature for you to say people failed to congratulate Platinum Stars for their victory agains Al Ahly. Some of us have a life we are no clued to our laptons the whole day looking for new stories. Congratulations to you Platinum Stars we are proud of you, The whole nation is proud of you, WELL DONE BOYS!!!

i wonder how Plat Stars will cope in the pressure cooker in Cairo in front of 70 000 screaming Egyptians???
at least Marumo has been there b4...he must let his team-mates know what they r in for...good-luck guys...

Considering that some big teams have long decided to avoid these competitions out of cowardice, Platinum must be congratulated and urged to continue in the same form.

u should have barried them, in Egypt there'll be no messy. At home Red Devils will thrash u, mark my words. The one goal advantage u have is nothing to them. I stil feel u were suppose to have scored many goals as u can. But for yersteday you played well, u kept them of back of the foot. Well done Potatoe Stars en gud luck in Egypt en on Wednsday against Pie-rats.

that was a very brilliant perfomance by our Statz, bt the wa is not over, if they can fight for @ least a draw up there coz those guyz can change, i mean they will engage overdrive... so pliz stars make it starry~

A proud moment to be a South African diski fan. I must say it was a pleasant surprise reading about such a fab victory. Congratulations PS & wilsh you lads all the best in the return leg. Go out there & do the uncommon thing, that is chowing them Egyptians in their backyard. Three Cheers to PS!!!

Stars midfielders was giving that Mohamed guy 2much respect,i would like Williams to sit on him on the 2nd round,but 1thing 4sure the referees are very biased towards that team and their playas would be fallin all over the pitch.
