PSL match report: Mpumalanga Black Aces draw with Ajax Cape Town

Posted: 9 November 2013 Time: 15:14

Mpumalanga Black Aces and Ajax Cape Town played to a dull draw at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Aces will feel they dropped points after creating the lion's share of chances, but they were denied again and again by Urban Warriors goalkeeper Anssi Jaakkola, who won the Man of the Match award.

Both the teams came into the match with almost identical records, with Aces having conceded just a few fewer goals than Ajax.

Aces were out to test whether Ajax would fall victim to complacency following their midweek win over Kaizer Chiefs, and Thabo Qaling was the first to test Jaakkola with an overhead kick.

Aces had a penalty shout in the 12th minute when the ball struck the upper arm of Mosa Lebusa inside the box, but luckily for him the referee adjudged it unintentional.

The hosts were doing most of the pressing and they caused some nervy moments in defence for Ajax. Ritus Krjuaklis failed to clear a long ball which fell kindly to Mabhuti Khenyeza, who struck it on the turn, forcing Jaakkola to make a diving save.

Just before the half hour mark, Legobang Manyama cut back for Keagan Dolly, but his shot was blocked by Abel Mabaso in front of goal.

At the brink of half-time, Ajax suffered another injury blow when Telinho hurt his jaw in a collision and was immediately replaced by last week’s goal-hero Tasreeq Morris.

Muhsin Ertugral made a second change after the break, bringing on Cole Alexander for the disappointing Manyama.

A defence splitting pass in the 52nd minute handed Khenyeza the best chance of the game, but his failure to shoot with his first touch allowed Ajax to close him down.

Clifford Ngobeni was next to test Jaakkola with a snap-shot on the hour, forcing the Finn to make an impressive save by tipping the ball over the bar.

Lebusa was living dangerously when his arm brought down substitute Dennis Masina in the six-yard area, and was fortunate to walk away without a card.

Mobara, what a player,,,he has so much energy, strong on the tackle, good in the air, has a burst of pace (similar to that of Manyisa and Kaka, very fast over the first ten yards),,,he has the potential to be best central midfielder (along with King Kamo) I hope he moves to the Amsterdam soonest to develop faster,,,,wow man, this is the future.
