AmaZulu SuperSport United PSL

Posted: 21 September 2013 Time: 19:43

AmaZulu dominated for most of the match, but in the end had to settle for a 1-1 draw against SuperSport United at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday night.

Matsatsantsa had taken an early lead through Thuso Phala, but Bevan Fransman’s own-goal got them back on level terms. Try as they may though, Usuthu just couldn’t get the winner their play deserved.

SuperSport got off to a flyer and took the lead after just eight minutes. A nice build-up involving Sameegh Doutie and Mame Niang saw the latter play a perfect through-ball to Phala, who made no mistake with his finish.

Four minutes later Sibusiso Khumalo thundered a shot into the side-netting from the edge of the area before the home side finally found their feet.

Carlington Nyandombo looked on in disbelief as Ronwen William produced a point-blank save from his header, before Njabulo Manqana hit a ‘freshy’ – completely miskicking the ball – when straight in front of goal.

However, the pressure did eventually pay off in the 29th minute – the unfortunate Fransman miscuing Nkosinathi Mthiyane’s cross over Williams and into the back of his own net.

There was a nasty incident shortly afterwards when Niang went in for a header elbow first, catching Kulegani Madondo on the side of the head and holding play up for a few minutes.

Mthiyane had one more effort before the break when he raced clean through, only to drag his shot across Williams’ goals.

AmaZulu came out firing after the break as SuperSport battled to retain any sort of possession.

Marc van Heerden had a free-kick which he fired straight at Williams, while Ayanda Dlamini found himself unmarked on the edge of the small box, but took too long and was closed down by the goalie.

Before that, Khumalo was lucky to escape with just a yellow following a reckless challenge which left Nyadombo sprawling on the pitch.

SuperSport chances were few and far between, with Usuthu coming closes in the dying minutes when substitute Stembiso Ngcobo was allowed to turn in the area and fire a shot off which Williams parried around the corner.

Mthiyane fired a shot over from 20 yards out and Ngcobo was expertly denied by Williams deep into injury time, but that elusive winner just wouldn’t come as AmaZulu had to make due with a second consecutive 1-1 draw.

yho usuthu plays some attractive footi ek se, ssp didn't know what to do, they just had to defend as amazulu came at them from every way. This amazulu team will surprise many this season, roslee must just work on finishing as they had all those chances but not even one could be converted, it was only fransman's error in judgement that help them. WHITE RED AND BLACK.

I'm really happy for Usuthu at the moment.......I think this shows that there's a fine line between good and great in the PSL. it's only a matter of self belief which can only be achieved if you believe in your capabilities. Well Craig for getting the guys to believe!!!
