Usuthu hold Chiefs to draw

Posted: 5 December 2007 Time: 23:06

AmaZulu held 10-man Kaizer Chiefs to a 1-1 draw in an Absa Premier League fixture at the Absa Stadium in Durban on Wednesday night.

Kaizer Motaung Jnr handed the Amakhosi the lead, with former Chiefs star John ‘Shoes’ Moshoeu netting for Usuthu. Chiefs were also reduced to 10 men when Onismor Bhasera received his marching orders in the second half.

Although the opening stages of the match was littered with fouls, both sides showed a very attacking approach to the game.

The first real chance of the game came in the 21st minute when Derrick Spencer headed just over from a corner by Siphiwe Tshabalala.

AmaZulu almost opened the scoring four minutes later when Moshoeu’s cross found Bafo Biyela inside the area, but the midfielder’s shot was superbly saved by Emille Baron.

Motaung Jnr almost put Chiefs ahead on the stroke of half-time when he rose highest to latch onto a cross by Jimmy Tau, but the striker’s effort sailed over the bar.

The match remained goalless at the break.

Motaung Jnr made no mistake in the 52nd minute when he handed Chiefs the lead after heading home a corner by Tshabalala.

But the visitors’ joy was short-lived as AmaZulu drew level three minutes later, with Moshoeu slotting home from inside the area after receiving a pass from Masoeng Sillo.

Muhsin Ertugral brought on David Obua for David Mathebula in the 57th minute and the Ugandan almost restored the Amakhosi’s lead within seconds of being introduced when he headed over from a Thuso Phala free-kick.

Chiefs were reduced to 10 men in the 80th minute when Onismor Bhasera received a straight red card for a professional foul.

The hosts finished the stronger of the two sides as they looked to capitalise on their numerical advantage, but it was not to be, as Chiefs held out to secure the point.

Ey, what happened to Chiefs now? I thought the guys after leading by 1-0, they would wrap up the game. What must we do now in order to play well in the league? Someone must come up with solution before it`s too late. Anyway, good luck guys & keep on trying your best.

History tells me that Ertugral can vat alles but the league. As a matter of fact, we failed to qualify for the super 8 with him in 2001. I guess we need to know our priorities. It does disguise though winning the TC. But as for the league, guys, forget.

its a norm to KC after scoring a goal,a minutes late the conside the goal.thanks mushin for winning the Telkom, cos we would be singing the different tune if u lost it and draw against Amazulu.Kc are goal goal shy,as a coach u need to work on that area, cos not every game will take us to penalties to the brave Khune to save us.any way good luk for future.we are sinking.

What Chiefs is doing unacceptable. The days of tolerating unbecoming behaviour of not winning league matches are over. These not a cup games. There is no exratime or penalties they have only 90 minutes to win the match. Guyz come on now...you dissappointing!!!

I am failing to understand Mushin and chiefs, These guys performed well with telkom games, but come league games, they play like a disorganised site. Obvioulsly Mushin will never deliver the league to Naturena, and it is for that reason that chiefs are going to fire him. I agree he has proved to be a cup specialist, but he must egually perform with league games. In football, you win today, but if you loose tomorrow, we forget about the wins, and start complaining.

I think some of us are extremely out of order or just naive when it comes to soccer matters. Any knowledgable soccer supporter will tell you it's practically impossible to be at your best after 2hrs of a drilling final encounter 4 days ago. Same with Sundowns they could'nt play yesterday, give the boys a break, they're human being not robots, obviously that final took a lot out of them. Personally i believe teams that are involved in cup finals should be given at least a week to recover - it's just not fair for them. A draw away from home hardly 4 days after the final is a decent result period. Let's not judge harshly now.

Well done to Usuthu for maintaining a high standard of football and there's no way they will be fighting to be saved from relegation zone this time around. Well done and you GUYS deserve the BEST!!!!!!

Coming to our TEAM/KC it's high time that we are taken seriously when we raise our concerns with regards to the lack of commitment from our players in terms of scoring goals etc. Therefore, if we can't score Goals we must go out on the Market and search for Top Quality Strikers who can bang in goals for us. Torrealba is now a free Agent why can't the management consider his signature to to us but "do it the right way" (frankly).

We need to score goals if we are to compete in the league or other wise we will again miss the Top Eight spot and there's no way we can tolerate that as Chiefs Supporters!!!!!!

I think in the absent of Nengomasha in the middle field cause a big blow for Chiefs maybe its a time for couch to try Mototo in the middle as we all know that he is tough and strong to win the ball in the middle and he can shoot also.

Toto yee...I hear what you trying to justify my friend but these guys as human beings as they are, they are football professionals, they train everyday whatsoever, they prepare for every single clash ahead. Are they tired? Aren't they supposed to be soldiers and die in the line of duty? A team of Chiefs' calibre can only do better. No excuses, finish & klaar!!!

I am a KC fan or maybe i used to be when I was south africa. But by nature a durbanite,so i am very happy for AmaZulu.

Coming to KC,they have been struggling for years now.Actually the only time time they really looked good was when Mushin was there,so let us just give him a season long, and see what he can do.so long as we don't get relegated, cups are fine.

ye guys forget about TC now is time to win the games. Mushin we a tired of draws remember u won the TC cup through penalties which was a lucky. Technical KC won only 4 matches and loose 7 matches this is a fact and is not good for KC now is time to work no more draws.

I think your headline is misleading the public. Based on yesterday's game, the headline should read.....Chiefs hold Usuthu to draw
