Moroka Swallows and SuperSport United draw 0-0

Posted: 11 May 2013 Time: 17:08

SuperSport United and Moroka Swallows played out to a goalless draw at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The result does little for their position on the log table, with Matsatsantsa remaining sixth, with The Birds a further spot back.

Both sides failed to take their chances in a scrappy encounter characterized by terrible finishing.

Atusaye Nyondo had the only chance in the first 20 minutes, finding space inside the area in the first minute, but only managing to direct a tame effort straight at Greg Etafia.

The Dube Birds struggled to find any room and as a result their first effort at goal only came in the 28th minute. Dikgang Mabalane split the Matsatsantsa defence, but the midfielder was unable to produce the finishing touch.

The home side had great chances to open the scoring through Jabu Maluleke and Mogogi Gabonamong in the last 10 minutes of the first half. Maluleke failed to capitalise on a free-kick opportunity on the edge of the area, while Gabonamong hit the ball over the crossbar from close range.

Swallows had an opportunity to open the scoring in the 55th minute, but Roger da Costa was unable to get on the end of Bennett Chenene’s dangerous ball across the face of goal.

Second half substitute Thabiso Nkoana had two opportunities just after the hour-mark. The striker could only manage to head wide from close range from a Maluleke cross before failing to hit the target with a curling effort after slicing through the Dube Birds’ defence minutes later.

Swallows survived a late scare, but Nkoana totally miscued his effort with only the goalkeeper to beat.

Kermit was a captain and they just dropped him to give it to Mogogi, and now he always come off the bench. I hope these are not signs of him leaving. I can see now that some players are pulling their socks up playing for their contracts, e. g Mogogi, Harskins. as for Cale, I think he must leave to open space for chenene. We lack composure in front of goals. I think a coach for strikers is needed. Goalkeepers have coach, I think introduction of coach for strikers can make a difference. Nkoana missed golden chances, and sometimes shoot where he should have played the ball. Some players are working hard ,the likes of Gyma and Doutie. The problem is strikers and i think they need some coaching.
