With a place in the top half of the table up for grabs, Bidvest Wits and SuperSport United both squandered the opportunity as they played to a 0-0 draw on Tuesday night.
The match sparked into life in the 15th minute when Sibusiso Vilakazi received the ball on the edge of the penalty box.
The Wits midfielder twisted and turned and instantly released an effort that needed the spectacular abilities of young United keeper Ronwen Williams to tip the the shot over the bar.
A minute later Vilakazi renewed his rivalry with Williams when he beat a few defenders and cracked a stinging right-footed shot that the keeper dealt with well.
Vilakazi was the centre of every Wits attack and five minutes later the inspirational captain cracked open the United defence with a ball to Bryce Moon on the right wing, and the former Bafana Bafana player supplied a low cross into the box which was met by on onrushing Papy Faty.
However, the Burundian international missed a glorious chance from just six yards and sent his effort into the stands.
In the final piece of excitement for the match, Wits defender S’boniso Gumede tried to test Williams from long range with a thunderous shot, but his effort just went wide.
