University of Pretoria and Bloemfontein Celtic drew 1-1 in their League match at Tuks Stadium on Wednesday night.
A third minute own-goal by Vincent Kobola was cancelled out by Aubrey Ngoma’s strike on the half-hour mark.
Celtic dominated the early exchanges, and the early pressure paid off when Kobola guided the ball into his own net past a helpless Washington Arubi.
Ngoma equalised for the University side after sustained possession in Celtic’s half. Mpho Matsi played a clever ball through to Ngoma, who beat the offside trap and smartly rounded Tignyemb before passing the ball into the empty net.
The midfielder had a chance to give his side the lead going into the break; his powerful free-kick evaded everyone in the box and Tignyemb was forced into a good save to keep the score level at 1-1.
Celtic started the second half the stronger of the two sides as they looked to get an early goal. Despite the pressure it was the home side who created the first chance of the second stanza in the 75th minute.
Ngoma yet again outsmarted the Celtic defence and laid it on a plate for second half substitute Ayanda Lubelo, but the midfielder could only manage to direct his effort straight at the Siwelele goalie.
AmaTuks created another good chance three minutes later through Lionel Mutizwa. Bongani Zunga made a good run from deep before passing to the Zimbabwean on the edge of the area, but his shot was comfortably saved.
Both sides had chances from free-kicks at the end of the game but they failed to capitalise as the sides settled for a point apiece.
