Phethego Maebela bagged a brace to send Jomo Cosmos through to the next round of the Nedbank Cup against Magesi FC on Sunday.
Cosmos opened the scoring after just 90 seconds, when Mbongeni Gumede sent a great pass across the face of goal, which Maebela slipped past helpless Magesi goalkeeper Noko Mapoulo.
Despite the early goal, Cosmos did not take charge of the match. Changes were few, and the third tier side looked comfortable on the ball.
Magesi had their best chance of the match on the half hour mark, when Alfred Laka forced Cosmos goalkeeper Buti Khosa into a great save above his head on the edge of the box, but he could not hold onto the ball, which fell to Johannes Manamela. The Magesi man had an empty net at his mercy, but hit wide and high.
Maebela then turned provider, sending a pinpoint pass in to Thabang Monare, who hit the crossbar.
Cosmos hit the crossbar again in the second half, after Myron Shongwe made a run into the area and had a shot.
Ezenkosi finally got their second when Maebela headed home from a corner.
