Kondowe brace sinks Sundowns

Black Leopards added to Gordon Igesund’s woes when they beat 10-man Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 in an Absa Premier League game at Loftus Stadium on Wednesday night.

Fischer Kondowe scored both goals to hand Lidoda Duvha a much-needed win, while Surprise Moriri scored a consolation goal for the Brazilians, who also saw Lerato Chabangu dismissed in the second half.

The Brazilians made the early start with Josta Dladla prominent in the opening stages.

The winger sent a shot into the side-netting in the sixth minute from inside the area, an effort he should have at least put on target given that he was unmarked and with a clear sight on goal.

Leopards were clearly looking to catch the hosts on the break and they did just that in the 24th minute when Kondowe shrugged off Vuyo Mere to run onto Myron Shongwe’s through-ball, before coolly slotting the ball past Brian Baloyi.

Sundowns should have leveled matters in the 31st minute when Patrick Apataki ran onto a good pass by Godfrey Sapula, but the striker sent his first-time shot just wide of goal from close range.

Leopards threatened to extend their lead five minutes later when Jabulani Maluleke sent in a fierce volley from outside the area, but Baloyi produced a good save to tip the ball around the post for a corner.

The score remained 1-0 at half-time.

Sundowns made a double substitution at the start of the second half, with Peter Ndlovu and Brent Carelse coming on for Apataki and Sapula respectively.

Ndlovu should have made an almost immediate impact when he astonishingly sent his shot from six yards woefully wide of an empty net after the entire Leopards defence, including goalkeeper Ephraim Tjihonge, missed a good low cross from Dladla.

Dladla almost leveled matters in the 51st minute, but his shot was deflected onto the crossbar.

However, Leopards doubled their lead a minute later following very poor defending by the Brazilians, which allowed David Thwala to put in a low cross from the left flank, which Shere Lekgothoane completely missed, allowing Kondowe the easy task of tapping home from within five yards.

The visitors almost made it 3-0 in the 56th minute from a corner, but striker Shongwe saw his powerful header fly straight into the arms of Baloyi.

Carelse then sent a header just wide of the Leopards from a good free-kick by Lerato Chabangu in the 59th minute.

Sundowns’ night got worse in the 70th minute when they were reduced to 10-men after Chabangu received his marching orders for stamping on Maluleke after the Leopards man fouled him.

Sundowns pushed more men forward as they tried to get back into the game, and they were rewarded when Surprise Moriri headed home from a cross by Ngwenya two minutes from the end, but by then it was all a little too late for the Brazilians.

I have to say this is one of the upsets of the season so i think sundowns r still suffering from the telkom cup hangover. This result is not good for either gordon's or patrice health. Its not good at all so i hope motsepe has common sense not to fire the best coach in south africa.

To Lerato Chabangu, my brother, you still doing well in the field, so please don`t get upset easily. Retaliation is still an offence in the field. Or are you still angry about losing out Thousands and Millions on Telkom Knockout? Please ask; Excellent Walaza how to keep your cool & you`ll be rewarded at the end of the day. We are South African proud of you, guys.

Let us remember the fallen, Dolezer, Gammondi, Tovey, ..... before the next one bite the dust. The truth must be told, based on what Mostepe dreams for his team this coach is clueless and he won't achieve, what happened in Africa last season is gonna happen again. The man has passed his sell-by date and he needs to be fired, BTW I am a Khosi 4 Life

Igesund must go, he is clueless, has ran out of ideas & clearly has his bfavourites who are performing below par. He has no vision & continuity plan. Fabio Capello was fired after winning the league with Madrid because he didnt fit into their mandate and the team wasnr playing attractive football, and the clubs favourites like Robinho & Diarra we not playing. Look at what they are doing now. The same applies to Ngwenya, Ngwepe, Arendse, Ndlela, Johannes, Kannemeyer, & I promise you these guys are hungry & talented give them a run & they will prove it. APATAKI & IGESUND MUST GO. (IF ANYONE LISTENED TO CHUKWU'S INTERVIEW ON METRO, THEY WOULD AGREE WITH ME WHEN I SAY DUMITRU MUST COME BACK & WE WILL SEE THE REAL SUNDOWNS & YOUNGSTERS COMING TO THE 1ST TEAM)

In the latest edition of kickoff magazine, Mr Chabangu was qouted saying "I am better pro now". In my view, that is contrary to what he did last night. He should know better that retaliation is a straight red card. That is going to cost sundowns dearly in the next coming games because he seems to be holding the brazilians' key to success.

I'm real dissapointed with last night results how on earth you keep on playing this player(Apataki)whatever he is doing in the practice doesn't convert to match game his first touch is something he need to work on very hard how can you play this player ahead of Ndlela for sure you have issues with players you have favourites why you keep Kannemeyer on the bench and play Shere i'm real dissapointed on you Gordon i know you want to win games but there's no way you can win games as long as you play Apataki please just swallow your pride play Lungisani starting Saturday against his former team give him fair chance like you did to other player

I think we (Sundowns) need frsh players on the field. Leremi was the answer to bring some spark back in the team but then again, the Almighty just had to borrow him back. Lets get two new vibrant young stars and get back to our winning ways. Hade masandawana a style

Looks like Gordon's time is up at Chloorkop. This Downs team of his is not playing like Champions and things are likely to get worse when the Champion's League fixtures start. I mean the fluid play is gone, so is the passion (seemingly). The way they capitulated to Chiefs was disappointing but loosing to Leopards is downright shocking!!!!

I used to respect this young man,LERATO CHABANGU and it ended on Wednessday knight when he deliberatly step on Siyabonga' "tools". How can a well respected and a proffessional player act so barbaric by ruining other player's plans? Very, very dissapointed.
