Tembu Royals FC beat AmaZulu 2-1 at King Zwelithini Stadium on Wednesday night

Posted: 27 February 2013 Time: 21:27

AmaZulu failed to reach the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup as they went down 2-1 to Tembu Royals at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Wednesday night.

Sechaba Mofokeng and Zukisa Ginya scored for Royals before Joseph Malongoane reduced the deficit for Usuthu on the hour mark.

The home side had the early half-chances from setpieces with Sifiso Vilakazi heading over the target in the 4th minute, while Phumlani Mhamha was denied by a good block from the goalkeeper four minutes later.

Then it was the visitors who started to threaten when going forward with Vuyani Nojiya forcing a good low save from Mbongeni Mzimela with a long range effort in the 12th minute.

Then ten minutes later Royals eventually made Usuthu pay for failing to clear their lines as Mofokeng beat Mzimela with a cracking shot from the edge of the box to hand his side a 1-0 lead going into the break.

Craig Rosslee then reacted by making two changes with Njabulo Manqana and Khulegani Madondo coming on straight after the break to replace Nyiko Tshabangu and Sifiso Vilakazi.

However, Usuthu found themselves on the back foot straight after the restart but Mzimela did well to block Thobile Mkhize’s shot at the near post.

Royals did however extend their advantage moments later when Ginya nodded the ball home after the home side had failed to deal with a corner.

The hosts almost struck from a corner at the other end in the 59th minutes, but Namibian international Willem Mwedihanga saw his powerful header cleared off the line.

Usuthu did eventually find the back of the net a minute later as Malongoane collected a pass from Kagiso Senamela and raced past defenders before tucking the ball in off the inside of the post.

The speedy winger was in the thick of things again in the 69th minute, but this time his effort ricocheted off a defender before crashing against the crossbar.

Then in the 76th minute Stanley Kgatla came close to leveling matters for his side after he was set up by Malongoane, but he fired wide of the target.

Royals goalkeeper Gogo made a brilliant save in the 86th minute as he blocked a point-blank header from substitute Makhosonke Bhengu to keep his side in the lead going into the final minutes.

Usuthu did manage to create more opportunities with Malongoane causing problems running in from the right, but Bhengu and Manqana failed to nudge his low cross into an open net in the 90th minute.

The winger had another chance to send the match into extra time in the final minute of added time, but this time he sent his shot crashing against the sidenetting.

AmaZulu: Mzimela, Hlongwa, VHeerden, Mhamha, Mwedihanga, Kgatla, Senamela, Tshabangu, Molangoane, Vilakazi,

Tembu Royals: Gogo, Ginya, Flara, Jojo, Mhlana, Dukada, Nojiya, Mofekeng, Mkize, Gebeda, Spelman

Other Nedbank Cup results:

African Warriors 3-0 Jacksa Spears

Black Leopards 5-4 Cape Town All Stars

Abbas Amidu scored four times for Leopards in the 5-4 extra-time in Polokwane.

Ask Kaizer Chiefs how humiliating these small teams can be cos they have T-shirt. Baroka; United FC; Pretoria University etc. They are now ######## in their pants cos a lot of them have qualified for the last 16

:..:..:..:..:..:..:..:..:..:..:..:..:..:..:..:..:..:

Let us look @ ur points and c if they don't apply 2 both Chiefs and Pirates b4 2010 as it seems they all point to life b4 2010.

1. The last time Pirates won anything, Mbeki was still doing hiis 1st term and they had 2 weight for Khoza's son in law to take office b4 they could win anything.
2. Yes, Brenda was still alive when Pirates experienced the absolute drought which lasted 7 yrs.
3. Balotelli was 12 the last time Pirates won anything. i.e. 2 yrs younger than he was when Chiefs last won da league.
4. Obviously point 4 apply to both.
5. In 2003, SABC1 was called Simunye (we are one) whereas in 2005 it was Simunye (one time).
6. Police cars were never yellow post apartheid. Yellow police cars are in the apartheid museum together with Mark Mayambela's stature.
7. If in 2005 Hilbrow was dangerous, I wonder how it was 2 years b4 that.
8. By 2003, Pietersburg was already called Polokwane. I am from Limpopo, u can't lie 2 me about my heritage.
9. I am nt sure if there lots of black men around Sunnyside in 2003 and by 2005 they were all gone having been replaced by whites who again left the area just after 2005. I think we should check with StatsSA b4 we call our points facts regarding this.
10. SA lost the bid to host da WC2006 in 2004. That was the beginning of Chiefs's dominance of a double double brother. By that time Pirates had already completed its first anniversary of the famous 7 year barellness by a league giant.

Well Done tembu Royals; this team has a rich history of struggle under the late King Sabata Dalindyebo, "Ah Jong'uhlanga". He led the revolt of the Tembu nation against the colonial and Matanzima subjugation. His son, and the heir to the thrown is King Buyel'ekaya Dalindyebo, "Ah Zwelibanzi". The radio Mhlobowenene's Patric Dalindyebo, "ah Dumalitshona" is the royal blood and brother to King Zwelibanzi.

General Holomisa once coached and managed Tembu Royals. This bit of history is just but an attempt to let people know how big an event this win is in Mthatha, specifically the Abathembu bakaNgubengcuka nation. This is not an ordinary team but a unifying factor in the struggle of the Abathembu since it's inception by the late King. It has been so deprived over the decades due to its stance against oppression.

Khosi 4 Life; and wishing the all the Abathembu a bright new day!
