Celtic into top eight

Match report: Bloemfontein Celtic beat Moroka Swallows

A 76th minute goal from Letladi Madubanya handed Bloemfontein Celtic their first win in three matches as they beat Moroka Swallows 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.

Phunya Sele Sele had to come from a goal behind after Katlego Mashego gave Swallows the lead in 32nd minute, and second half goals from Lerato Manzini and Madubanya did just that as Celtic secured seventh place on the log with their first three points since November 25.

It was Swallows’ fifth loss in a row, extending their winless streak to eight matches – they last won a match at the beginning of October. The result sees the Birds drop down to 13th on the League table, only two points out of the relegation zone.

It was a slow start to the match and the first real action was the opening goal.

Some sloppy defence from Celtic allowed Mashego to find some space on the edge of the 18-yard box and he passed the ball into the bottom left-hand corner, giving the keeper no chance.

Four minutes later Celtic nearly hit back when Manzini was on the end of a flick at the front post after a corner-kick, but he was unable to react quick enough as he touched the ball onto the crossbar from a couple of metres out.

In the 38th minute Swallows also hit the frame of the goal with a Lerato Chabangu free-kick. The Bafana man curled a 22-metre effort from the left side of the box around the defensive wall, beating the keeper, but striking the woodwork.

Celtic started the second half at a frantic pace and hit back two minutes after the restart.

Manzini was put through on goal with a defence-splitting pass and he made no mistake with just the keeper to beat, producing a clinical finish to level matters.

The comeback was complete in the 76th minute when Swallows failed to clear a corner-kick, and the ball was delivered back into the box for Madubanya to rise above the keeper to head home and seal the win.

Slowly but surely Swallows is getting back to where they were a season before Gordon saved them.
The jacket-throwing coach is now freezing-cold. He can't throw his jacket anymore. I wonder what's his excuse now, since he put the blame for his team's loss to Kaizer Chiefs on the referee's optional time.
He is now so clueless and I believe the sooner he get the boot, the better it will be for Swallows.

No one beat Pirates by 3-0 margin and survives, ask Santos(first division), Ajax(battling), Jomo Cosmos4-0(first division), Zebras(never won a cup after that), Supersport(battling), Swallows(battling).
