Emmanuel Adebayor and Dove Wome scored to give Togo a 2-0 win against Algeria in an Africa Cup of Nations match at Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Saturday night.
Algeria created a lot of chances in the first twenty minutes but Togo goalkeeper Kossi Agassa rose to the challenge.
Players like Feghouli, Lacen and Slimani were all involved in goal scoring opportunities for Algeria.
Adebayor scored for Togo in the 31st minute after latching onto a through ball to beat Rais M’Bolhi.
Togo managed to survive several Algerian attacks until the end of the first half.
The Algerians continued to put pressure on their West African opponents in the second half but keeper Agassa managed to keep them at bay.
The match had to be halted for a while in the final minutes after the referee spotted a fault with the goal post. It took more than five minutes for the re-fixing to pave way for the final minutes of the encounter.
Wome, who was the target of a counter attack, made no mistake as he planted the ball beyond the reach of Rais M’Bolhi to make it 2-0 in the 94th minute.
The defeat leaves Algeria with no point after two matches following a 1-0 loss against Tunisia in their first match and they now become the first team to leave the tournament with a game still to play.
