Morocco, Cape Verde share the spoils at AFCON 2013

Posted: 23 January 2013 Time: 22:10

Morocco and Cape Verde played out to a 1-1 draw at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Wednesday night to keep Group A wide open.

Luis Platini had given Cape Verde a first half lead, but second half substitute Youssef El-Arabi netted 12 minutes from time to secure a share of the spoils.

Cape Verde made most of the play in the first half and almost netted early on through Julio Tavares, but his header was tipped over the bar by Nadir Lamyaghri.

The Atlas Lions’ only real chance of the half came when goalkeeper Vozinha tipped Abderrahim Achchakir’s long-range shot around the post.

The impressive Ryan Mendes forced another sharp save from a free-kick, but Cape Verde finally got their first ever Nations Cup goal on 36 minutes – Platini expertly chipping the goalie after a sublime through-ball from Mendes.

Morocco finally got into the game after the break, but found it difficult to break down the resolute Blue Sharks defence.

However, their patience was finally rewarded on 78 minutes when El-Arabi slotted from 12 yards out after some great work down the right by Abdelaziz Barrada.

The result leaves South Africa top of Group A on four points following their 2-0 win against Angola, while Morocco and Cape Verde are level on two points apiece.

Bafana are left with little to do to qualify, that's when they slack psychologically. Hope they go for the kill even if we need a draw to qualify

Again, lets not snatch defeat from the clutches of victory. This group is ours to lose, its in the bag. A win will put us @ a happy place. And it will send shivers down the spines of those who finish 2nd in Group B.

Cape Verde coach a mistake by taking out Mendes and Platini, it's at that stage that Morocco started to come back into the game cause they never had a player to keep on the backside as these two did throughout the first half. BB4Afcon

This could actually spell bad news for Gordon's team.

Both Cape Verde and Morocco now have 2 points each.

Gordon's team has 4 points.

Should Morocco win on Sunday, and Cape Verde also, they both would have 5 and qualify for the next game.

The only hope for Gordon XI [if they lose], is if the game between Angola and Cape Verde is a draw.

I love group stages. They're always unpredictable LOL

By the way.... Did you watch Hazard kick a ball boy yesterday?

I cant see any comment by Maminzela as he is always negative about Bafana Bafana, where is he hiding?
The draw agaist between Morocco & Cape Verde made things much simplier but tough, we need a straight win against Morocco to avoid dissappointment at last, C.P & Mor may progress should they win with bigger margin.
Anyway, get well Majoro, we will miss you boy.
