Sundowns leave it late against Ezenkosi

Posted: 7 May 2008 Time: 17:31

Bryan Aldave’s last minute strike handed Mamelodi Sundowns a 1-0 win over Jomo Cosmos in their Absa Premiership clash at the Orkney Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

Cosmos made most of the early running with Bonginkosi Macala shooting high over Brian Baloyi’s crossbar from just outside the area in the fifth minute.

Sundowns imposed themselves on the game midway through the half and won a succession of corners, but failed to capitalise on their dominance.

Ezenkosi almost took the lead in the 41st minute, but Thapelo Tshilo’s fierce shot from the edge of the area flew straight at Baloyi.

A minute later, it was the visitors who threatened, with Lerato Chabangu shooting just wide from inside the area.

The match remained goalless at the break, with Cosmos looking the better side after the restart.

However, despite all their dominance in the opening stages, they failed to create any real clear-cut opportunities.

Sundowns almost broke the deadlock in the 64th minute, when Peter Ndlovu rose highest to meet Chabangu’s cross, but the striker’s header was comfortably saved by Avril Phali.

An inspired substitution by Trott Moloto saw Aldave replacing Ndlovu seconds from the end, with the match looking destined for a draw, but with seconds left, the Uruguayan ran onto a pass from Surprise Moriri to slot home from inside the area to hand Sundowns the points.

Im sorry for getting in the middle of the party here. Congratulations to Downs. However, i think its very premature to expect them to win the league. Enjoy the wins, but limit the talks. Few months back, you couldnt talk. Today its 'they are unstoppable'. Come on. Yes. The performance should be encouraging, however, this whole thing could end in a disaster just like what may happen to ManU. So, enjoy but dont talk too much.

I can imagine some PSL club bosses having a meeting in the middle of the night around this time last season...

Khoza: Ha bafwethu... this Motsepe guy is bringing down our business...

Comitis: Leave him...every time he tries to buy player I'm gonna create controversy around the deal... (remember Terror Fanteni)...

Matthews: Me too... (remember Teko Modise and Katlego Mphela)...

Khoza: Ja... I think you guys have a plan there...(Now Lebogang Mokoena)...

Kaizer: The only chance nna le Khoza have to match him is to spin money out of PSL...

Comitis: But ga le share wena le Khoza... and Jomo won't take this lying down...ene ke a mo supporta...

It is amazing how quickly some people forget, when Pirates beat Sundowns, there was noise all over the place, the boys at Varsity laughed at me for the whole week, saying they will win the league, they are unstoppable, blah blah blah, now that we are making the noise, it's becoming a PROBLEM for some people.

If you had to have a very good memory in order to get into school(grade one, in particular), some people would still be looking for schools

Atleast Sundowns is dishing out some hope to us Mzansi football lovers.
I like the ultimate vision and high ambition of Chief Motsepe which is to 'CONQUER AFRICA.'
However, it is still a long way to get there.
I am looking forward to a day when wailing poor teams like Cosmos get 6-0 gift vouchers from the Big boys.
Keep on, keep on, boss. There is hope but much more still must be done.
Dont relax now.
