Chippa United beat AmaZulu 2-1 and will now have to face the promotion/relegation Play-offs

Posted: 18 May 2013 Time: 17:10

Chippa United fought back to beat AmaZulu 2-1 and will now have to face the promotion/relegation play-offs to secure their top-flight status.

Usuthu took an early lead through Bongani Ndulula, but Brent Carelse came off the bench to secure maximum points for his side, scoring twice with penalties.

The hosts opened the scoring in the fourth minute when Ndulula bundled the ball into the back of the net from close-range, blocking an attempted clearance from Issa Sarr after Mbulelo Mabizela had initially lost the ball.

Chippa threatened from a set-piece on 17 minutes with Tshepo Tomanyane picking out Mabizela inside the box, but the defender headed over the crossbar.

The Chilli Boys leveled matters three minutes after the break as Carelse scored with a penalty after William Twala had been fouled in the box by Philani Cele.

Usuthu then had two good chances midway through the second half, but Andile Khumalo was denied by a decent save from Tasrique Goldman in the 60th minute, before the same player flashed an effort wide four minutes later.

And it was the away side who eventually stole maximum points in the 75th minute with Carelse converting another spot-kick after Goodman Dlamini was adjudged to have fouled Mkhanyiseli Siwahla.

AmaZulu finish the season in 12th place with 32 points, while Chippa remain in 15th place with 28 points.

This playoff thing is killing our soccer. Chippa failed to win most of their games this season. Let them go to NFD to regroup. Giving them chance against teams in the second division that did well to earn a promotion is madness. In this country, we make rules based on mediocrity. Our standard of soccer would not improve as long as we have room for dismal losers. Ja. We need to move away from this. We need to celebrate wins and pity those that failed to win. Mxm.

This play offs are not good. We should have 20 teams in the psl and 18,19 and 20 getting relegated automatically as to give NFD teams a chance and we get to rotate players as well. With NFD now carrying plenty of under23 players, this could be good for our football.

Chippa have impressed me since Farouk took over, they he was fired they dropped their performance during Mugeyis tenure. Mark came in and they play well, they are impressive. They play better than AmaZulu, Maritsburg Unt and Golden Arrows. As much as I hate this playoffs as they take opportunities from deserving NFD teams, we can't loose Chippa. They must come back next season to show us what they have, with Mark at the helm

The chippa united coach tried his best to save the team. If he was employed earlier he coulld have saved the team. I also believe chippa will win the playoffs and return to the PSL. I think Mpengesi has learnt a lesson that there is a between running a professional football club and a security company. Coaches are people too, they need to be respected and be given enough time to adapt. Kaizer chiefs is a good model to other teams on how coaches should be treated in order to sustain stability in the club. Hats off keep it up coach you did a good job.
