PSL match report: Platinum Stars beat Maritzburg United

Posted: 1 May 2013 Time: 21:34

Platinum Stars kept their League title hopes alive with a late win over Maritzburg United.

Dikwena scored twice in the final seven minutes to keep the heat on Amakhosi.

Stars have now closed the gap at the top of the table to three points with two matches remaining, though Chiefs do have a vastly superior goal-difference.

Robert Ng’ambi and Thuso Phala were on target for Stars, who were good value for the win.

The home side made the better start as Henrico Botes and Tintswalo Tshabalala had efforts on goal that went wide.

The opening period was a tight affair, devoid of clear-cut chances, but Dillon Sheppard created two scoring opportunities for himself that were both saved by home goalkeeper Kabelo Dambe.

Orlando Smeekes fired over when well-placed for Maritzburg, while Heinrich Isaacks again forced a good save from Dambe.

The deadlock was finally broken on 83 minutes, when the ever-dependable Malawian international Ng’ambi picked up the ball in the penalty area and showed great composure to fire home.

As Maritzburg pushed forward for an equaliser it was inevitable they would leave gaps at the back, and Phala used his pace to exploit these to add a second.

After being put into space by Lindokuhle Mbatha, the Bafana Bafana star fired the ball low into the back of the net to seal the win.

This does not worry me at all. Chiefs are going to win the lig. We will defiantly win one or all of the remaining matches.

Another thing is PS's next game is away to relegation threatened Arrows and as we have seen relegation threatened teams are very dangerous.

We opened a small hole for Stars and they took it, anyway, we need 3 points against SSU then we won't care what stars do. Very disappointed in our game today

Well, the gud thing is that we will play on a Wednesday after seeing the results of platinum during the weekend, so we will know what is needed. Wake up call for my boys, but I hope Arrows can pull a draw against platinum...

It's gonna be interesting but I am still confident

Proud Rural Boy stop pretending to be a Chiefs supporter. You are clearly a Chibuku fan trying to rubbish the Mighty Amakhosi. What do you mean if Pirates were on form you bloody idiot ? Why not Sundowns or SSU or any other team. You are trying hard to make us think that even though Chibuku FC will finish 3rd or 4th on the log they are stil better than Chiefs. Go to hell bloody fool.

Hehehehehehehehehe.........Pirates fans are really suffering. Just yesterday all they were talking about was Operation Smash and Grab now they are happy at PS' victories. Are these people for real ? How will they implement their Operation Smash and Grab if they are happy with PS winning ?

Do I need to repeat it to this dunderheads that they are torturing themselves for nothing. PS are of late blowing hot and cold. Their next game is against Arrows in Durban and their last is against SSU. For PS it is gonna be the case of so near yet so far when we beat SSU and win the lig.

What a fruitless season mabakaniya. We have to move on and accept that it is gone. I don't even have the energy to comment on the game or even point my finger at roger.

Hopefully khoza has signed a new coach and the coach is already scouting the players he wants for next season

I don't believe the players were out to sabbotage Roger, I just think he was incompetent and the Pirates brand was to much for him. If the players were plotting his down fall, then we must have a clear out next season cause clearly they don't have respect for the OPFC spiritual owners.

Congra Animals/Chimpanzee/thiefs on your league success.

Dankie platinum for reminding this Zebras that their team is very average.
