PSL match report: AmaZulu draw with Mamelodi Sundowns

Posted: 21 April 2013 Time: 17:31

Mamelodi Sundowns and AmaZulu dropped vital points, as they could only play to a draw on Sunday.

The result means AmaZulu move up one place on the table to 12th with 28 points while Sundowns stay 11th on 32 points.

Chances came thick and fast in the opening 20 minutes and Usuthu had the first in the sixth minute when Njabulo Manqana provided a great cross into the box, which Andile Khumalo met, but his powerful header was high.

In the eighth minute Hlompho Kekana tried his luck from 30 metres, but his shot went over the crossbar.

Ayanda Dlamini had probably the best chance of the half when he met a right-side free-kick, but his header went agonisingly wide.

The match started to slow after that as both teams became a little more cautious in attack and opted to tighten up in defence.

AmaZulu’s Thamsanqa Teyise fired a thunderbolt goalwards from 30 yards out on the half-hour mark, but his effort went over the bar and the half ended all square.

The start of the second 45 saw both teams making immediate changes as Kagiso Senamela replaced Andile Khumalo for AmaZulu and Elias Pelembe replaced Themba Zwane for Sundowns.

The change seemed to benefit Sundowns better and they forced Tapuwa Kapini into a number of saves.

In the 54th minute he had to react quickly as Jabulani Shongwe took a 25-yard shot, tipping it over the crossbar.

In the 70th minute he was called into action again, this time producing a good stop to deny Tebogo Langerman from 12 yards out.

Thereafter, AmaZulu took control of the game and were unlucky not to get the win three minutes from time when Senamela forced Wayne Sandilands into a brilliant save from the edge of the box.

i wish lig could come to an end as quick as possible. i think May is too far. Pitso has to do drastic changes come next season. I have a strong believe that he will get rid of all cows that always grazing the grass on the field instead of scoring goals. when i said Shongwe is cow people grilled me and even others said i had personal issues with him. today he proved them that he is definitely a cow.

Only Chiefs who take maximum points here, the rest is busy playing draws or loose. Plus they yada yada too much.

I can't wait for Chiefs to take DOUBLE this season.

you just saw the game yesterday night. swallows scored three times but the ref denied. if a ref was consistent he was supposed to allow Mashego to kick it for the fourth time because Khune also moved off the goal line before mashego kicks the ball. if you didn't see it just watch extra time tomorrow then we'll talk more.

What a boring game especially the 1st half. 2nd half Amazulu played a lil bit of football but generally the game was poor, too much possession lost on the ball, stop and go via throw ins

thing is with a team like downs expectations are always high but they always fall short when it matters the most. people are now talking abt next season on how they are going to sweep clean everything with the same coach Pitso at the helm now, failing to motivate these players. question is how is next season going to be different? once again expectations are high for next season, we'll see if they will be able to meet them.
