Platinum Stars beat Black Leopards 4-0

Posted: 6 April 2013 Time: 17:04

Platinum Stars maintained their excellent form this season following a 4-0 drubbing of Black Leopards on Saturday afternoon.

Goals from Sibusiso Msomi, Mogakolodi Ngele, Siphelele Mthembu and Patrick Malokase ensured Dikwena are in second place, while Leopards' plight at the bottom of the standings continue.

Leopards looked dangerous early on and Joshua Obaje, in particular, was giving them impetus in attack, hitting two shots straight at the goalie.

But it was Stars who got the opener just past the half-hour mark; a well-worked move seeing Siphelele Mthembu pull the ball back for Msomi to pick his spot from.

The hosts nearly added a second 10 minutes later, but Leopards keeper Azwindini Maphaha made a superb reflex save to deny Ngele.

There was, however, time for Stars to add a second goal before the break – Ngele sending a low free-kick curling inside the far post two minutes inside first-half stoppage-time.

Second-half substitute Raymond Monama nearly made an immediate impact as he ran in on goal in the 47th minute, only to be denied by Siyabonga Mpontshane, who rushed off his line to steal the ball.

Cavin Johnson’s side extended their lead to three on the hour-mark thanks to Mthembu’s superbly taken goal, turning smartly in the box before beating Mapaha at the near post.

Lidoda Duvha were close to pulling a goal back in the 73rd minute when Victor Kamhuka fired in a shot from the left, but Mpontshane made a brilliant save.

Malokase completed a miserable afternoon for the Limpopo visitors in the 92nd minute with a smart finish across Mapaha and into the back of the net.

Eish Dikwena is blazing. If we don't win this league then let Dikwena take it, with everything they have done this season they deserve to win it. I'm happy for this players and their mentor Cavin Johnson.
