Manzini wins it for Celtic

PSL match report: Lerato Manzini scores as Bloemfontein Celtic beat Chippa United

Posted: 2 March 2013 Time: 05:32 pm

Lerato Manzini got the only goal of the game for Bloemfontein Celtic, as Chippa United's woes continue.

The points move Celtic up to fifth place on the log, three points behind neighbours Free State Stars, while Chippa stay rooted to the bottom of the table.

Celtic skipper Thabo Nthethe forced a brilliant save out of Kassaly Daouda in the fourth minute, but was judged to be offside anyway.

Chippa thought they had opened the scoring when Brent Carelse found the back of the net from a Masibusane Zongo free-kick in the 23rd minute, but Carelse was also adjudged offside.

Zongo went close for Chippa on the half-hour mark, but his free-kick went agonisingly wide of Patrick Tignyemb’s right-hand post.

Carelse had a chance to give his side the lead going into the break, but the veteran midfielder’s shot from outside the area was easily gathered by Tignyemb.

Zongo created the first real chance of the second stanza in the 62nd minute, when his left footed strike went narrowly wide at left-hand post.

Celtic had an excellent opportunity to open the scoring 15 minutes from time, but Mogorosi could not direct his close range header into the net.

But Phunya Sele Sele broke the deadlock when Manzini gathered the ball in the box after a miscued shot and fired past Daouda from close range, after excellent work from Joel Mogorosi down the right flank.

Maxwell Kubheka nearly equalised just minutes later, but his shot from outside the area cannoned off the post.
