Thabo Mosadi’s 94th minute equaliser secured a 1-1 home draw for University of Pretoria against Moroka Swallows on Wednesday night.
Swallows had the first chance of the match in the second minute when Katlego Mashego latched onto a long ball from Rudi Isaacs, but the striker’s effort only managed to trouble the post.
Swallows opened the scoring in the eighth minute when Siyabonga Nomvete beat the offside trap and curled the ball past the helpless Washington Arubi to net his second goal of the year, after a long injury layoff.
Aubrey Ngoma forced Greg Etafia into his first save of the match in the 19th minute of the game, when he skipped past Roger da Costa, but he could not beat the rushing keeper.
AmaTuks had the last chance of the half from a free-kick but Ngoma could only manage to boot the ball over the crossbar and the half ended 1-0 in the favour of Swallows.
AmaTuks brought on Mame Niang and Mpho Matsi at the start of the second half as they were keen to get back in the game; Niang scored a brace against the Dube Birds last year.
Swallows, however, started the second half as they ended the first, with Nomvete testing Arubi from close range in the 47th minute.
The goalie was then forced into an acrobatic save on the hour mark when Georgian midfielder Giorgi Nergadze struck a vicious shot from 30 metres out and only a brilliant save from the AmaTuks keeper denied him from doubling the lead.
Etafia then made a fantastic save of his own, denying defender Buhle Mhwanazi from close range in the 79th minute.
Thabo Mosadi then headed in from close range after Dipsy Selolwane’s shot was blocked to rescue a draw for the University side in the last minute of the match.
