Mamelodi Sundowns proved too smart of Bidvest Wits as they came out 2-0 winners to seal their second consecutive Premiership victory, with goals from Alje Schut and Katlego Mphela.
With the end of the year just two games away, both teams were looking to go into the break on a high.
Mamelodi Sundowns came into the game on the back of a five-match undefeated streak, while Wits had failed to take maximum points in five games, losing twice and drawing three times.
It was a big match for Matthew Pattison - who was facing the club he controversially left during last year - and he nearly put Wits in front with a diagonal strike which inched past the far post.
However, it was Sundowns who found the back of the net first when Alje Schut did well to rise above everyone in the box, to head in a corner kick in the 22nd minute.
Ofentse Nato saved Wits from going down by a second goal, when he cleared the ball off the line, with just ten minutes left in the half.
Another ball was cleared off the line and this time it was by Method Mwanjale, who bravely cleared with an overhead scissor kick in the 56th minute after Wayne Sandilands was beaten.
Wits were caught napping in possession, when they scrappily gave the ball away to Sundowns and were left ruing their errors in the 67th minute.
Substitute Richard Henyekane was the one who gathered it and smartly slotted it through to Katlego Mphela, who turned and struck a low powerful effort past the onrushing keeper to make the scoreline 2-0.
Efforts on either end of the field proved fruitless when Mashaba went on a great run for Wits and turned into the box, but it stung the side netting.
Meanwhile Henyekane’s ambitious effort went over the cross bar, with just eight minutes remaining.
