Mamelodi Sundowns continued their surge up the table when they defeated Black Leopards 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Katlego 'Killer' Mphela netted his first goal of the season in the first half; a clinical header inside the box, after a well-timed cross from Nyasha Mushekwi.
Nine minutes later it should have been 2-0 to the Brazilians after a mistake at the back by Leopards. Centre-back Humphrey Khoza was caught napping when he missed a ball that was crossed into the box but Mushekwi's shot from close range was impressively saved by Ayanda Mtshali.
Five minutes before the interval Leopards striker Rodney Ramagalela could have brought the match level when he received a good low cross from Raymond Monama on the left flank after making an intelligent run, but he could only connect with the ball through a slide and Wayne Sandilands was well positioned to make the save.
In the 47th minute Anthony Laffor put in a good cross from the left wing but Mushekwi headed wide with a diving header inside the box.
Eight minutes later Mushekwi again had a chance when Elias Pelembe put in a good cross from the right flank, but the striker headed high.
Six minutes after the hour mark the hosts should have settled the points. After retrieving the ball in their own box from a Leopards free-kick, Teko Modise orchestrated a counter attack and passed to an unmarked Laffor, but the Liberian shot agonisingly shot wide across the face of goal with his left.
With 19 minutes left in the match, Leopards captain Mongezi Bobe had a low shot from outside the box well saved by Sandilands.
The victory stretches Sundowns' unbeaten streak to five League matches.
