Late Losper strike wins it for Ajax

Ajax Cape Town beat Maritzburg United

Ajax Cape Town recovered from their 3-0 midweek defeat to Kaizer Chiefs when they beat Maritzburg United 1-0 at Athlone Stadium on Friday night.

Maritzburg looked sharp and fluent early on, but it was Ajax who had the better chances as Bradley Grobler miscued from 16-yards and then Khama Billiat went closer with a dipping volley on 12 minutes.

Three minutes before the interval Ajax got in behind the United rearguard, but Shuaib Walters was alert to the danger as he snuffed out Lebo Manyama’s attempt.

The KZN side had the first two chances after the break, but neither Thabang Matuka or Mthokizisi Yende caused any worries for Roberts.

The game remained tight and evenly contested with the next chance only coming after 66 minutes when Travis Graham was denied by Walters.

The Urban Warriors continued to huff and puff in the Maritzburg half, but had to wait until the 86th minute before they finally got the reward they were looking for as Toriq Losper netted with a clinical low strike after being set up by Wanderson.

The Team of Choice nearly levelled immediately. but Delron Buckley’s shot missed the post by a matter of inches.
