Another draw for SuperSport United against Golden Arrows

Posted: 25 November 2012 Time: 17:36

SuperSport United scored five minutes from time against Golden Arrows on Sunday, for their 10th draw of the season.

Abafana Bes'thende will be relieved with the result, after three losses on the trot.

Sibusiso Hadebe and Norman Smith found the back of the net for the visitors, while Franklin Cale and Mor Diouf replied for the home side.

Thamsanqa Gabuza had the first sight of goal in the fourth minute of the game when he managed to get behind the Matsatsantsa defence on the left, but his shot fizzed just wide of the upright.

Then the home side settled into the game and started dominating the possession stakes, with Mabhuti Khenyeza shooting over the bar in the 12th minute, while Jabulani Maluleke shot straight at Pavels Steinbors eight minutes later.

Despite being under pressure, Arrows made full use of their first clear chance in the 22nd minute when Hadebe headed the ball into the back of the net following a poor clearance from Thabo September.

Arrows came closing to adding a second 10 minutes later but Bonginkosi Ntuli was unfortunate to see his curled effort coming off the far post.

United soon leveled matters when Cale volleyed the ball in at the far post after Khenyeza's initial shot had been blocked.

George Maluleka almost put his side ahead in the final minute of the first half, but his long-range shot flew just over the bar.

The second half was even more entertaining with both sides playing positively as they looked to secure all three points.

Arrows created the chances earlier in the half, with Nkanyiso Mlotshwa denied by a block on the line in the 47th minute, while Smith saw his shot palmed over the bar by Ronwen Williams.

From then on it was the turn of the Arrows goalkeeper to show what he was capable of as he denied Maluleka with a low one-handed save in the 68th minute, before stopping another effort from Atusaye Nyondo three minutes later.

Gabuza almost regained the lead in the 74th minute when he connected with a low cross from Hadebe, but Williams pulled off another great save to deflect the ball over the bar.

Arrows did get their second goal in the 75th minute when Smith buried his shot into an empty net following a defensive misunderstanding, after winning the ball from Roscoe Pietersen and catching Williams out of position.

Their lead lasted only 11 minutes, however, as Diouf slotted past Steinbors from the right after Arrows had failed to clear their lines.

Smith almost netted his brace with a minute to go, but he fired his shot straight at Williams, after doing well to slip past Diouf, while Luyolo Mapolisa blasted a shot wide shortly before full time.

Mr Editor, we don't need the full report. The information given is good enough.
It is not going to help anyone. Unless you do it for your records.
