Chippa United put an end to Platinum Stars' five-match winning streak, with their first win in six matches on Tuesday night.
The game was filled with scoring chances from the start, and the Chilli Boys had their first shot in the opening few minutes, when James Okwuoso hit a first time volley over the bar after a corner.
Stars then created a succession of chances; Ngele Mogakolodi went close from on the left, before Thuso Phala's powerful drive across goal was well saved by Kassaly Daouda.
The home side took the lead in spectacular fashion on the half-hour mark when Larry Cohen fired a screamer into the top corner from 30 metres out.
But five minutes before the break the scores were level again, after Martin Moonsamy rolled a back-pass past Daouda and into the net for an own-goal.
Dikwena were the stronger team for the first 10 minutes of the second half, before the Chilli Boys started to come back into the game as Brent Carelse became more and more influential.
Chances, however, remained rare, until 20 minutes from the end when Welcome Qalanto smashed an indirect free-kick into the bar from 12 metres.
Then, with just two minutes to go, a perfectly flighted free-kick from Diego Brown found the head of Andile Mbenyane, who nodded home for a big win for the Cape side.
