Another draw for SuperSport United against Maritzburg United

Posted: 20 November 2012 Time: 21:41

SuperSport United got their ninth draw of the season against Maritzburg United on Tuesday evening.

The visitors played almost the entire second half one man down, after midfielder Edwin Gyimah received his marching orders, but they managed to keep the home side at bay.

Maritzburg came close to taking the lead in the eighth minute following a goalkeeping error, when Ronwen Williams dropped the ball inside the penalty area with Cuthbert Malajila lurking, but fortunately for the keeper a defender came to his rescue.

Ashley Hartog found himself in space outside the penalty area 10 minutes later, but his shot flew over the crossbar.

The Team of Choice almost broke the deadlock just under half an hour in, when Mario Booysen played a long ball over the defence to find Orlando Smeekes, but the striker failed to pick his spot and in the end Williams was able to make a comfortable save.

Matsatsantsa were reduced to 10 men on 47 minutes, when Gyimah was shown a straight red for a pull on Malajila when he was the last defender in line.

However, the rest of the half was similar to the first, with Maritzburg enjoying most of the possession, but failing to carve out clear chances.

Hartog came close to stealing the lead in the 59th minute when he connected with a free-kick from Jabulani Maluleke, but his header went over the crossbar.

In the 63rd minute Michael Morton saw his long-range shot sail over the crossbar, and Delron Buckley achieved the same result three minutes later.

Both teams created chances at the death, with Sibusiso Zuma curling a free-kick just wide, while Terrence Mandaza was denied by a good block by Williams at the other end.

The visitors had the last say in added time when Maluleke ran onto a low cross from Zuma just inside the box, but his shot went just wide of the upright.

Ayi, SS should just fire Gavin Hunt. He's out of ideas. And I loathe this Gyimah guy; he collects a red card every 2nd game, and is a danger to the future of other players, this guy should just be castrated and thrown in a den of lions! SS plays the most boring football of all the teams in the psl!
