Nerves were evident as both sides got off to a cautious start. Eleazar Rodgers had the first effort at goal with a header in the 7th minute, but it was easy pickings for Sander Westerveld.
After the first quarter the pace started to pick up and Toriq Losper was conducting play beautifully for the Urban Warriors.
The midfielder took a shot in the 24th minute before creating some good interlinking play with Khama Billiat and Grandwald Scott minutes later, which resulted in Scott's effort being tipped around the post by Wayne Sandilands.
The fans thought Sundowns had found the back of the net on the half-hour mark when Rodgers got a slight touch to the ball with his head, but it flashed past the near post.
Westerveld caused a stir in the 37th minute when he fumbled Teko Modise's shot at goal and it fell straight back into the midfielder's path, but Nazeer Allie managed to kick the ball out.
Westerveld's blushes were saved in the 49th minute when the upright prevented him from conceding an embarrassing goal from a low Manqele shot, which rolled under his body.
The game started to gain momentum for Ajax on the hour mark and they nearly took the lead when Lebogang Manyama found the back of the net, only for it to be blown offside.
A few minutes later Grobler missed a chance to break the deadlock when his volley, from just inside the box, went wide at the post, after just beating Sandilands.
Nyasha Mushekwi replaced Anthony Laffor up front in an attempt to bring some spark into Downs' frontline for the last 10 minutes.
Substitute Alcardo van Graan stirred things up for Ajax with a low effort at goal five minutes later, but despite each side's last-minute efforts neither could produce the goods for a late winner.

Sunclowns shuld go to disciplinary hearing, cows are leading our PSL and foreign scouts wont take our lig serias until Pirates put things back in to order...if Sunclowns had beaten the cows in the lig encounta, Pirates wil be leading the lig tomoro
Sunclowns must buy few cows to complement their quality...even if it means looking in Naturena farm for a rare breed of brah man cows....come the 8th, human beings wil lead the marathon...time for cows, four leg creatures is over. Baxsta shuld as well go to the cow kraal to prepare for next season

Sundowns r in trouble, 4rm the above fixtures the only game they can nd have to win is against Pirates...nd if they lose that game it will b hard to win the other games coz confidence will b very low!!

"We hv a lot of young talented players in our development who r abwt to break into the 1st team, one in particular is Oupa Manyisa, only 18 yrz bt has potential, so next year we will challenge 4 another ACL!!"- Jerry Skhosana after winning ACL in 1995
I don't like that are cliques at the Sundowns team.
Look at Pelemebe.Teko,Punch and other Sundowns players it is clear they are part of a clique.
This mohawk nonsense is unnecessary, grown men looking like small boys(mohawks and bleached hair)
There are divisions in this team that's the only reason bahluleka,as to what is causing that division only the guys at the team particularly behind the scenes know why.
The Sweden coach did that,I mean getting the players to shave off their funny hairstyles,in the 98' world cup
