Usuthu fight back for first win

AmaZulu beat Moroka Swallows in Durban

Posted: 26 September 2012 Time: 8:26 pm

AmaZulu claimed their first win - and scored their first goals - of the season as they came from behind to defeat Moroka Swallows 2-1.

Thokozani Mshengu scored in injury-time for the crucial win after Ayanda Dlamini had cancelled out David Mathebula’s opener.

The hosts missed a number of chances to take the lead as Ayanda Dlamini fired his shot over in the 12th minute, while Mbele saw his shot from a tight angle blocked by a good save from Greg Etafia.

Then in the 31st minute Philani Cele showed how dangerous he can be when pushing forward when he fired just wide after collecting a loose ball just outside the box.

Swallows’ first shot at goal came in the 35th minute when Felix Obada set the ball up for Giorgi Nergadze, but unlike in the MTN8 Final on Saturday, his shot went well over the target.

Then a minute later the Dube Birds punished the hosts for a lapse in concentration at the back as Mathebula placed his low shot past Philani Zikalala from the edge of the area.

Ayanda Dlamini sent his header straight to Etafia in the 51st minute, before Kagiso Senamela fired just wide a minute later.

Then Swallows were gifted a chance in the 56th minute when a mistake from Cele allowed Siyabonga Nomvete a clear sight of goal, but the veteran striker saw his strike parried away.

In the 65th minute Mbele fired his shot just wide of the post, before Marc van Heerden forced Etafia to punch his free-kick to safety.

However, Van Heerden tested Etafia from a more direct angle in the 74th and this time the experienced goalkeeper was unable to keep the ball in his gloves, allowing Dlamini to bury his follow-up shot.

And just when it looked like the two sides would have to settle for a share of the spoils, Usuthu grabbed their first win of the season when Mshengu beat Etafia with a left-footed curler.

Please bring back all the AmaZulu soccer matches to the Townships. i.e Princess Magogo Stadium KwaMashu and King Goodwill Stadium Umlazi because it draws much needed support for the team as opposed to playing in an empty Moses Mabhida which cannot be filled to capacity hence killing the atmosphere of the game and the crowd support. I hope this request will not fall on deaf ears

I wonder what these Rats will say after they talked to much about that game Amakhosi won by 6-0 against Amazulu. They said that Chiefs couldn't work tall after defeating Amazulu because is poorest team in Psl. Amakhosi must beat Swallows because is best team in league.

Well done Amazulu and Kickoff.
I'm mentioning kickoff because i posted in this website that Madida must Raise up his hand and be counted amongst the coaches and guess what happened?
4 days later he was appointed as the caretaker coach for Amazulu.
Madida, this only the beginning of good things and please prove me right by taking Amazulu to second spot behind Pirates.
Kwanele Kopo(Supersport) and Mondli Funani(blackburn in East london) i also need to see your hands up.

Let Roger Palmgren stay where he is. HE MUST NEVER COME BACK TO USUTHU!!!!!!!! Well done boys for the win. Its clear that it is not working out between Roger and the players. So for the better of the team, Roger must never come back.

Mashego's dreams of lifting a treble are somehow diminishing, as we said, (we meaning the DTC family) its not every Tom,Dick and Harry who clenches the treble its only the Championship material like Bucs, fact is there are the only team to have made history or broken records in the history of Mzansi's football.

Stupid chimpanzees, we said Amazulu and Downs were in a charitable mood, they were donating to everyone. This win doesn't make Amazulu a big team, even Chippa won yesterday. The thing were talking about was FORM.
