Chippa make Sundowns sweat for win

Mamelodi Sundowns did not have it all their way against Premiership new boys Chippa United

Mamelodi Sundowns did not have it all their way against Premiership new boys Chippa United but did win 1-0 thanks to a free-kick by Thamsanqa Sangweni.

Sangweni, on his League debut for Sundowns, broke the deadlock in the 71st minute with an excellent set piece.

When Chippa’s Gift Sithole conceded a free-kick on the edge of the danger area, Sangweni stepped up to drive home an important winning goal.

Sundowns started the match with former captain Esrom Nyandoro playing in defence, a position he has played in for Zimbabwe’s national team recently.

With Clayton Daniels out for tonight’s match and Siyanda Xulu on trial in Russia, Nyandoro stepped in to add experience to the backline while new signing Thami Sangweni did duty in midfield.

Man of the match was Chippa goalkeeper Abduraghmaan White who did very well to keep out Hlompho Kekana’s deflected shot with his foot early on.

Then in the 26th minute he made another good save. This time, Teko Modise slipped a pass through to Edward Manqele and White blocked the attempt.

It took until the 54th minute for Chippa to get a genuine opportunity on goal. Star forward Andile Mbenyane, who was in the Ajax Cape Town youth system a few years back, got some real power behind a shot, but his attempt was saved well by Wayne Sandilands.

White then made another very good save in the 60th minute when he parried the ball out for a corner after Tebogo Langerman fired in a powerful, low drive.

Sometimes I tend to believe our coach drinks too much! How can he not start with Mampuru, silly coach. Our style of building from the back patiently is getting tired now, teams stiffle us by playing 8 -1-1 formation like Chippa, maaritzburg. Against chiefs I swear nyandoro will be exposed badly, those guys can be dangerous! I think rodgers played very well, our left wing is very strong. Can someone please teach kekana how to pass the ball?

Thank God my team Kaizer Chiefs did not sign Manqele. This boy is indeed a cow in the making, even 1500 SIGNDOWNS fans can attest to this. 1 season wonder.

Not the kind of performance I expected from my beloved Brazillians, but a win is a win. Just a word of advice to the coach, the team wasnt in crisis when we bought the new players. Those players were bought to strengthen the team not to replace the players we have. So for me fielding the majority of them in our first game of the season is a bit unwise. I thought the process would be gradual, n they will be given the opportunity to fight for their place in team. Not the other way around, that will destroy the team. Pelembe and Lafour are still very good players, whether you like them or not.

AsTekoloshi was ready to take the free kick, Thamy stepped up and kicked it b4 tekoloshi. He was so surprised that he didn't know what to do after Thamy scored. For couple of seconds, tekoloshi stood there mesmerized...lol...

I tell you, this team will not win anything as long Tekoloshi is there. Speed Sa paraffin is already reaching its climax
