SuperSport United through to Nedbank Cup semis after beating Jomo Cosmos

Posted: 15 April 2012 Time: 17:11

SuperSport United beat Jomo Cosmos 1-0 in a Nedbank Cup quarter-final at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

A single goal from Thabiso Nkoana was enough to take Matsatsantsa through.

SuperSport dominated the first half, but true to form struggled to find the back of the net.

Jabulani Maluleke had a chance for United six minutes in, controlling the ball inside the box and turning his defender, but he shot just wide.

Cosmos gave Kermit Erasmus too much space, and seven minutes he let fly from 25 metres out, but hit the crossbar.

Avril Phali had to make an acrobatic save to prevent Maluleke's volley from taking SuperSport ahead shortly after that, and Ashley Hartog should really have given United the lead two minutes later when a left wing cross found him completely unmarked 10-yards out from goal. However he sent the ball just wide.

Nkoana thought he had sent SuperSport ahead 10 minutes into the second half, but Phali produced one of the saves of the season to keen Ezenkosi in the game.

But seconds later Nkoana latched onto a loose ball in the box, hitting home with a bicycle kick.

Cosmos tried to fight their way back, but were unable to create any chances and SuperSport held on for the win.

Brazilitto do n't be too excited. You have come to the end of the road. Semi Finals: Amazulu vs Sundowns and Free State vs Supersport. Pretoria teams will be knocked out. Every body is talking about packing the bus so what, amatures!!Neeskem might have coached big teams but he is not a winner. He won coach of the month for draws while Khompela and Pilgram are performing.

Ditabana,I watched Sundowns playing several games. They are trying too hard to do a simple thing but the coloured boy at the back Punch and Ngubane are fantastic. Please watch Amazulu play with a football eye and you will tell me. Pelembe,Teko,Mphela,Kekana,Laffor are battling to get it right.Nyandoro is good. That is my opinion.

Fact:All the Teams left now don't have supporters......by supporters I mean at least 4000 Supporters/Fans at the staduim......I nearly said AmaZulu are better but nawo only if they r in Kzn/Gauteng,Joburg to be excat.....and other Club only when it plays eLoftus other than that they all have an average of 30-500 supporters.....Putco Mafani can attest to this.......

@Leal and @012594, you two guys are med really, what is the use of having lots of supporters and wining nothing, the fact remains your teams are out of the competition with their lots of fans. remember suppoters don't play and they can never made your teams win games.

We are sick and tired of two faced Pirates and Chiefs fans: who always think fan base implies success: let me learn you, the fact that your teams so called giants have the largest fan base in the country doesn't make the competition without you unsuccessful but the teams in the semi finals deserve it and they all won: so please let us breathe cos your pathetic comments suffocate us and merely shows sore hearts: Free State Stars didn't play that well against Chiefs, just that 'ontaba kayikhonjwa' were nowhere to be seen: history wise, we respect you but kahleni ukuqeda umoya bathong: it's not about you: YOU ARE OUT....and what you can do is what you always do,,,,niyaqasha
