Black Leopards punish poor Maritzburg United

Posted: 22 March 2012 Time: 08:23

Black Leopards took advantage of a lacklustre performance from Maritzburg United to record a 1-0 win on Wednesday night.

Raymond Monama scored the only goal of the match in the second half to secure maximum points for the away side.

United created the first chance of the match in the 13th minute when Cuthbert Malajila connected with a cross from Kurt Lentjies, but the Zimbabwean striker sent his effort wide of goal.

Then the visitors had a chance at the other end nine minutes later when Ramagalela received a great ball from Raymond Monama inside the penalty area, but his first touch was poor and the ball went straight into Shu-Aib Walters' gloves.

Ramagalela almost opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time with a powerful shot from 35 yards out, but Walters was equal to the task as he parried the ball to his left to keep the scores level at the break.

The opening goal finally arrived 10 minutes after the break when Monama made a great run into the box to nudge the ball into the back of the net after receiving a low cross from Ramagalela.

Leopards almost doubled the lead in the 69th minute when Mongezi Bobe fired a shot from outside the penalty area, but his effort went over the crossbar, while Ramagalela had a shot saved by Walters two minutes later.

Ernst Middendorp's men then pushed forward for the equaliser in the closing stages, but Wayne Matle headed inches over the crossbar in the 83rd minute, while Kurt Lentjies' shot was tipped over the crossbar in the dying moments.

I'm glad B Lpd are doing well. I hate Jomo for thinking he is the best coach and for telling his players to kick others go down Jomo and never come back
