Orlando Pirates draw with Libolo

Posted: 3 March 2012 Time: 18:00

Orlando Pirates have been knocked out of the CAF Champions League preliminary round following their 1-1 draw with Recreativo do Libolo of Angola on Saturday afternoon at the Patrice Lumumba Stadium.

Bucs went into this match on the back foot, having lost 3-1 in the first leg two weeks ago in Port Elizabeth.

The reigning PSL champions needed to score three goals without reply to progress and it was no surprise when they went on the offensive from the first whistle, but the task was not made easy by Libolo who played a 5-3-2 formation from the onset.

However, it was Libolo who took the lead in the 35th minute when their skipper Maieco Henrique, who bagged a brace in the first leg, scored with a header from a corner kick.

Libolo’s lead was shortlived though, as Bucs finally got the breakthrough via the boot of Andile Jali, who pulled one back for Bucs from close range on the stroke of halftime.

Pirates needed three goals in the second half to at least force the match into extra time and Bucs coach Julio Leal brought in Tokelo Rantie for Bongani Ndulula in the 52nd minute.

Six minutes Benni McCarthy replaced Dikgang Mabalane and Pirates continued to press forward.

Pirates thought they had scored in the 71st minute through Siyabonga Sangweni from a cross by Oupa Manyisa, but the goal was disallowed after McCarthy was adjudged to have been offside when Manyisa played the ball.

Despite putting up a gallant fight Pirates couldn’t get the goals they needed and Libolo won 4-2 on aggregate to send Bucs packing.

Pirates line-up: Josephs - Nzunga, Cloete [Mhlongo 88th], Mahamutsa, Sangweni - Jali, Mabalane [McCarthy 58th], Manyisa, Segolela - Mbuyane, Ndulula [Rantie 52nd]

CAF has congratulated bucks on their advancement due to rule 14.1 which states that a team with a star will advance should it play to a draw away and loose 3 -1 home.

Aaahwu bandla! Hard luck to the Bucs family!

This battle was lost in P.E. cause today 'our' boys were on fire and playing with purpose.....on the real, hard luck MaBhakaniya I'm also hurting kancane.

On the flip side, 4-2 against such a weak side puts this Footbal one-0-one into question, it's been proven to be crap, and disgraced the country like BaPitso BaPitso.

Nx.Leal must fokof, starting such a crucial game with a rusty Ndulula, and leave out your trusted source of goals Benni on the bench was a recipe for disaster, even McCarthy's body language showed that he was'nt impressed et al, I mean coming on immediately after recess nge-2nd half would've been better phela.

Libolo would'nt have solved this 'X' so easily had Leal done his homework, the Colonel must crack the whip........correction, Colonel must've already coc'ked the rifle! mh, mh,

Zwai, half the team failed trias with Al-Qaeda and turned to football as a hobby, this is unacceptable, we've been disgraced......again.

Phela their goalkeeper used to carry Bin Laden's luggage before his capture, and thought catching soccer ball's would be easier. Lol.

Why blame the coach always when you lose games. You always make noise about this useless , used condom called Ndulula, now the coach start the game with him, so what ? I mean you always make noise about galaxy of stars....which means evry player on the starting line-up is the best....so what now ?
Anyway whoever thought that Pirates would win the 2nd leg is dom, should just consider watching WWE ,SOAPIES.....

Pirates is coached by a clown. 3 defensive minded midfielders & yet the team needs to score goals. As I said before, "we will not defend this league title with that clown as a coach".

You can support him if you want but I won't be part of it. We playing the most boring soccer ever, we struggle to win against teams in the bottom half of the table & we've just been knocked out in the first round of one cup that we need the most. To top it all we suppose to support this clueless man. I don't embrase mediocrity & I know a loser when I see one.
