Sundowns beat Powerlines 24-0!!

Posted: 4 March 2012 Time: 17:30

Mamelodi Sundowns set a new South African scoring record on Sunday afternoon after beating Powerlines FC 24-0 in a Nedbank Cup last 32 match.

AmaZulu held the previous record of 16-0, beating Bizana Lucky Stars 36 years ago, but The Brazilians demolished that in Kimberley.

Sundowns’ destroyer-in-chief on the day was Hlompho Kekana, who netted seven times, while Nyasha Mushekwi scored six times and Richard Henyekane five.

Sundowns capitalised from poor defending early on when Sibusiso Zwane pulled the ball back in from the right side and Kekana struck the ball into the crossbar before it bounced into the net.

In the 12th minute, Mushekwi miscued his effort when he was through on goal and one-on-one with the keeper, but Richard Henyekanye picked up the ball to make it 2-0.

Three minutes later Kekana got his second of the match when he beat the off side trap from a Method Mwanjale through ball and he coolly slotted home.

In the 20th minute it was 4-0 when Doctor Mampuru played a low cross from the right side flank and Henyekanye blasted the ball into the net from six-yards out. Four minutes later it was 5-0 when Mushekwi exquisitely finished inside the box.

On the half-hour mark Kekana got his hat-trick when Mampuru crossed from the right flank and he slotted home.

In the 41st minute, Mampuru was once again at it on the right wing when he set up Mushekwi and the Zimbabwean striker easily slotted home from six-yards out to make it 7-0.

Two minutes later, Mushekwi got his hat-trick when Henyekanye broke loose on the left side and teed up Mushekwi, who miscued his effort but that resulted in the ball chipping over the keeper for 8-0.

On the stroke of half time, Mushekwi grabbed his fourth he lurched onto a rebound from near the goalline after the Powerlines ‘keeper had saved a Pelembe shot to take the score into double figures, 10-0 heading into half time.

Three minutes after the break, Kekana made it 11-0 when he hit a ferocious shot from the edge of the box which left the ‘keeper wrong footed.

Mushekwi got half a dozen goals in the match when Pelembe set him up to slot into an empty net after 52 minutes, 12-0.

Samuel Julies made it 13-0 when he chipped the keeper to score on his debut. Henyekane then picked up his hat-trick to make it 14-0.

It was 15-0 on the hour mark when Kekana struck from six-yards out with only the ‘keeper to beat.

Pelembe then got into the action when his effort went in from the inside of the cross bar to make it 16-0. He was again at it when he grabbed his second to make it 17-0.

With 20minutes left, Sundowns made it 18-0 when Lebohang Mokoena, who had just came in as a substitute, condemned Thabang Louw to more misery when he picked up the ball out of his net for the 18th time in the match.

Henyekanye made it 19-0 in the 74th minute and he was soon at it a minute later when he made it 20-0.

Local boy Julies scored his second of the afternoon, to make it 21-0 in the 76th minute and two minutes later Kekana grabbed his sixth to make it 22-0. He then grabbed his seventh two minutes later to make it 23-0.

The match eventually got its last goal when Mokoena tapped in a simple effort form six yards to make it 24-0.

Mmmhhhh.....24-0.I'm not surprised. This Powerlines team is form Kimberly right ? The alcohol drinking and stabbing capital of Mzansi...

These are boys who mix some dangerous concoction with the black stuff from batteries. Methinks the whole team was high on something.

Sundowns don't be too excited..The Mighty Amakhosi will bring you down to earth.

Downs sets the trend and as usual the rest follow, making history now comes natural, first Porates got 6-1 in a BPTop8 match, then the world famous 44 passes with 10 men against Chiefs and now Powerless Powerlines got 24 of the best? Who is next?

Well done to Sundowns and hard luck to PowerLines. The name PowerLines FC will go down in history.

I must salute the bench of sundowns as well as the players for their commitment and professionalism.

Today Sundowns showed the difference between the best team(Sundowns) and the biggest team(Chiefs).
The Best team score goals and brag afterwards, while the biggest team get attention from the media, the public and etc and they hype the match only to be disappointed.

i suppose Nhlopho Kekana must foune Nedbank and demand his top goal scoring money, i doubt if the wil be a player get more that 7, not a Sundowns fan but was impressed with the proffesionalism and do what they went there to do and score as many as they can....and be discipline at the same time. no show boating, just kill the small team
