Kaizer Chiefs beat Cape Town All Stars in the Nedbank Cup

Posted: 3 March 2012 Time: 22:21

Kaizer Chiefs beat Cape Town All Stars 3-0 in the Nedbank Cup last 32 on Saturday night at the FNB Stadium.

The All Stars gave a good account of themselves and frustrated the Soweto Giants for large parts of the game, but in the end the Phefeni Glamour Boys proved to be too good for the Vodacom League side and stamped on their Nedbank Cup dreams.

A goal in the first half from Lucky Baloyi and two in the second half from substitutes Lucky Khune and Lehlohonolo Majoro was enough to see Chiefs to a convincing victory, at least in the eyes of the fans.

The first half saw the Amakhosi with 80 percent of the possession and seemed able to cut through the All Stars defence almost at ease.

Bernard Parker came close to opening the scoring in the 11th minute. Parker found himself in good position in the middle of the box, but his headed attempt from ten-yards out sailed over the crossbar.

In the 26th minute Chiefs managed to capitalise on their dominance when Baloyi found the back of the net with a 22-yard peach of a goal.

Balyoi ran onto a ball outside the area and his fierce volley had the beating of Wesley Fransman in the Stars goal, striking the post on the way in to make it 1-0.

The rest of the half saw Chiefs squander numerous chances in front of goal with Parker and Kaizer Motaung Jnr the main culprits.

The second half certainly saw the Cape side looking more enterprising as they pressed forward, but they struggled to break down a resolute Chiefs defence.

The Amakhosi withstood the early pressure in the second half and then started playing some eye-catching football.

In the 69th minute Chiefs finally found their second goal as Majoro broke down the left and supplied a pin-point cross to find Lucky Khune unmarked inside the box. The striker took his chance with a well-placed header from six-yards out, 2-0.

Two minutes later and it was the turn of Major to find the back of the net as he capitalised on a mistake by the All Stars’ goalie.

Fransman passed the ball straight to Majoro who didn’t need a second invitation to drive toward goal and slip the ball past a stranded goalkeeper, 3-0, sealing Chiefs place into the last 16 of the competition.

Chiefs: I. Khune; Tau, Ritchie, Zvasiya, Sweswe, Katsande, Baloyi, Lebese, Masango (MAteba 73’), Parker (L. Khune 64’), Motaung Jnr (Majoro 64’)

All Stars: Fransman, Davids, Trouncelle, Kondeleke, Mazibuko, Jacobs (Bronnkhorst 75’), Nongwele (Mrwebi 58’), Ncaca, Saal, Niyane (Mhambi 61’), Fransch

The boy is just nowhere near Punch Masenamela.

His mistakes will be exploited on the 17th March.
