Chiefs and Sundowns draw

Posted: 14 November 2007 Time: 22:13

Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns drew 0-0 in an exciting Absa Premier League encounter at the Absa Stadium in Durban on Wednesday night.

The match was fairly even throughout with very few clear-cut scoring opportunities.

Late in the second half Chiefs looked the fresher of the sides but were not able to really trouble the Sundowns goal.

In the 13th minute Sundowns’ Lerato Chabangu shot well wide from long-range.

Cyril Nzama passed the ball a long way up field which found Shaun Bartlett but he hammered his left-footed shot past the post in the 20th minute.

Seven minutes later Esrom Nyandoro’s long-range shot went well wide.

Chabangu took a shot from outside the box in the 40th minute but it was easily saved by keeper Itumeleng Khune.

The sides went in at the break with the score remaining goalless.

In the 72nd minute Brian Baloyi had to make his first stop of the game when a pass down the middle found a running Kaizer Motaung Jnr, who ran into the box with the ball but was denied by an out rushing Baloyi.

Surprise Moriri had a great scoring opportunity when Jorge Acuña passed the ball from the left side to him unmarked in the area; Moriri hit his shot wide but should have done better.

Moriri had an opportunity five minutes later but hammered his shot straight at the keeper.

In the end a draw was probably a fair result.

Until Chiefs sign a player maker or bring back those guys at the development, will be playing for the top 8 spot.

I still don't understand what Igesund sees in Apataki. The man is useless. It is clear he has no faith in our home grown talent of Ngwenya, Ngwepe and Ndlela who I believe can deliver given the chance. Besides we are busy saying saying South Africa lacks strikers whilst Igesund benches top strikers for no apparent reason

chiefs played well, but the system of using Shuan as a lone striker annoys me. they started to be mobile upfront after the introduction Mabhuti and Kaizer jnr. Thuso Phala should be given more play time than Zwane. Well Done to Khune, you make me proud to be a Chiefs Fan.

I still can't believable Brian managed to take that ball away from Kaizer Jnr's feet. Sundowns must give all credit to Brian he saved them.

bartlett alone upfront will cost chiefs dearly, acuna played excellently nothing fussy just doing the business, you can see his played in europe. chiefs need a playmaker asap, mooki has no gas anymore and sibeko froze on the big stage, and even though i'm a chiefs fan downs did enough to scare the hell out of me

For as long as Chiefs play with one striker we are not likely to see any goals. Why do coaches sit on the bench with strikers while we have a goal drought in our league? Ertugral must bring back Scara or else Chiefs must show improvement. We cannot continue playing draws the way we do. At least we must be satisfied.

pirates are going to become predictable if they do not stop relying on teko 2 make them tick, more players should come to the party the burden can not rest on 1 man alone but that being said owen is doing a good job so i'd advise bucs fans to back him all the way

chiefs were annoying in the first half no forward movement, based on that first half display and sometimes in the second, then they should just recall gert and scara. there was none of that fast attacking movement players would turn around during a counter and pass a ball backwards just like scara used to do so i see no reason for them not to play coz had no ideas going forward only after introducing phala, sparapara and jnr. did they start looking threatening but still i'm a khosi for life even if we go 2 mvela(in 'ur dreams)

i think it was a tightly contested game and both teams played well but Chiefs must sto using a lone striker because it is cinjesting the miedfield so players like Mooki,Tshabalala, Arthur & etc no longer has a chance to play around with the ball which used to create chances for us.Khenyeza must stop hoding the ball too lond he is not a miedfield but a striker....well done Khune keep it up and do away fame mantality.

Jorge Acuna seem to be the answer in the middle of the park for Sundowns. He is a great passer, destroyer and a header of the ball. Coach must try to use the services of Manqoba and Chabangu upfront, I believe they can make a difference for us. Again thanks to Vuyo Mere and Brian Baloyi.

I don't think this was an exciting game. One could see that both teams were playing for a draw, there was no hunger from both sides. I think watching Ajax CT hammering Swallows was worth it

I don't understand why Mushin start defending playing lone striker because to beat Sundowns you have to pile pressure on them they are vulnerable under pressure good example was in the second half after introdution of Motaung and Khenyesa. Credit to both Khune and Baloyi they have shown that they are ther to do what they are expected to do. Acuna on the other hand suprised many, he played well. McCarthy has shown what he worth

This system of Bartlett alone upfront doesnt work, Chiefs stated playing when they introduced the 2 strikers. On the first half the guys didnt trouble Sundowns defence. The less said about Sibeko the better, the guy is lost in that midfield and he was the one who always loses the balls. Correct me if Iam wrong on this I think Gert can do a better job than him in that midfield. Mr coach please stop using this alone striker supported by Sibeko upfront or else you will kiss the Telkom & the League good bye.

The game was very boring. it was an eyesore. Gordon, please lets get back to play the way we were when we won the league. Sundowns has never been a defensive team, maybe Chiefs but Sundowns always attacks and lets get back to that mentality.

Come on Gordon how on earth you play Apataki ahead of Ndlela & Shakes please swallow your pride and play these players and give Kannermeyer game time he can do better than Ntwagae who always on referees book.
