SuperSport United beat Santos in League

Posted: 18 April 2012 Time: 21:28

SuperSport put more pressure on beleaguered Santos with a 1-0 win over Santos in a League match at the Athlone Stadium on Wednesday night.

The only goal of a tight game came seven minutes from time and was scored by Thabiso Nkoana.

The result sends the Pretoria team up to fourth, while the Peoples’ Team remain marooned second from bottom, falling a further point behind Black Leopards who they drew with Free State Stars.

There was goalmouth action early on for both sides as Eleazar Rodgers saw his header saved by Rowen Fernandez, while at the other end of the park Kermit Erasmus was even closer when he struck the outside of the post.

That was it though as far as goal-mouth action was concerned for the majority of the balance of the half as some determined defending from both sides and some robust play in the midfield saw chances limited.

Matsatsantsa had the first chance of the second half, with Erasmus drawing a smart save out of Pa Demba Touray with a left-footed strike from close range.

But despite dominating possession, the visiting side were not able to carve out any further decent chances as the game lacked in goal mouth action.

United did have a couple of half chances, but the likes of Tebogo Langerman did not have their scoring boots on, shown by some wayward shots.

Indeed the match seemed to be headed for a draw, until United finally came up with a goal – Nkoana slotting home expertly in the 83rd minute from 10-yards after a god run and cross down the right from Atusaye Nyondo.

Mr/Mrs editor!, this is meant to tell those who did not have time or opportunity to watch the game or never got to listen on the radio to picture what transpired. So far it looks like this report is from a hear say. The person who wrote this story was NOT at the game... Neither did he/she watch the game on TV or even listen on the radio... Poor job indeed!!

I would like to put my head on the block & say Cosmos is going to be relegated automatically while Santos goes to the play-offs.I am begining to see that light at the end of the tunnel.Santos is only good at spoiling Pirates' happiness & I'm looking forward to their departure.UP THE BUCS!WE GOT OUR TROPHY BACK!
