Black Leopards lost 1-2 to Mamelodi Sundowns

Posted: 11 April 2012 Time: 21:30

Mamelodi Sundowns are back at the top of the Premiership table, after they beat Black Leopards 2-1 at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday night.

Man of the match Punch Masenamela scored first, before his goal was cancelled out by Samuel Mabunda. Masenamela, though, turned provider when he created the winning goal for the Brazilians with a superb left-wing cross, which was converted by Nyasha Mushekwi.

The game kicked off in the strangest fashion as Masenamela opened the scoring in only the second minute with a bit of a fortuitous goal.

The Brazilians' defender tried his luck with an unexpected 35-yard effort which worked its way through a crowd of players, wrong footing the keeper, as it found the back of the net.

Azwindini Maphaha certainly didn’t expect the Downs left-back to let fly from that far out and was actually moving to cover his right-hand post when Masenamela took the shot.

Leopards, though, were not to be outdone and hit back quickly, finding the equaliser 10 minutes later after Mabunda latched onto a Luyolo Mapolisa corner with powerful 12-yard header to level matters.

In the 21st minute the game found its third goal, this time goalscorer Masenamela turned creator when given too much space and time down the left flank.

The Downs man produced a pin-point cross to find Mushekwi, who did well to get in front of his marker, and glanced the ball into the back of the net with a six-yard header.

After the quick-fire opening 20 minutes the game settled down a bit as Sundowns controlled the possession stakes for the remainder of the half.

The second 45 was nowhere near as exciting as the first and, while the possession stakes were reversed, with Leopards seeing more of the ball, the home side could not create any decent chances on goal.

Downs still looked the more threatening going forward and came close to finding their third goal in the 59th minute when Lebohang Mokoena shaved the left-hand upright with a 22-yard volley.

That was the best of the second half action as both teams were wasteful in the final third of the field.

Congrats to Sundoms for winning. You saves us from the noise of the Rats. Imagine if u lost or drew, they wud be spewing all sorts of kak...

next week you will extend ur lead when the Rats lose to Swallows. I for one have made peace with the fact that my team is out of it even though on paper we r still very much there.

@Sweyts, bro I believe that we were playing against Black Leopards plus match officials.

As for the commentators from Supersport channel, they're extremely biased against our team. I always opt for the option of no commentry on the language option.

I'm just glad that we've won, I missed goals and a win man. Damn I'm happy!

Yellow remains the colour of the number one spot!

I have one fear which of hopes being raised and ultimately nothing being delivered. It's fine it can down to the wire but I know what SSU did to us two seasons ago so with that experience in mind the mighty OPFC can't afford to slip again...which means those who will be on crying side are the Yellow Kaks.

They better save their blushes by forgetting now about the league. I know the Zim Nationa team will do what they did to Ajax last season and OPFC will be the beneficiary ultimately.
