Ajax Cape Town and Moroka Swallows draw League match

Posted: 7 April 2012 Time: 22:19

Ajax Cape Town stopped Moroka Swallows from moving to the top of the table as they were held 2-2 at Cape Town Stadium in a League match in which Siyabonga Nomvete netted twice for the visitors.

The Urban Warriors came into the game on the back of a 2-1 win over Jomo Cosmos and were looking to extend their run, while Swallows were out to keep up the pace on the league front runners Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.

The hosts made the break through in the 9th minute as Brent Carelse put his team ahead following an initial Etafia save from a Khama Billiat corner.

The final minutes of the first-half saw the some sloppy and loose passing as the players tried to adjust to the wet rainy conditions.

Jospeh Makhanya made way for Oscar Machapa at the start of the second half, while Lefa Tsutsulupa saw his effort cleared off the line by Lolo.

Fifty-two minutes in Lebogang Manyama doubled the lead for the hosts as with a chip over the goalkeeper after beating the offside trap.

But it was Nomvete who would strike three minutes later with an excellent team counter-attack as he sliced it past Westerveld.

In the 62nd minute Nomvete drew the teams level as his shot from outside the area went into the bottom right corner.

In the 69th minute Sibusiso Kumalo replaced Tsutsulupa, while Alcardo van Graan was brought on for the hosts two minutes later.

Five minutes from time Swallows were forced into a substitution as Nomvete picked up a knock and was replaced by Bongani Twala, while Nergadze did well to header away an Aiden Jenniker free-kick from range.

Its not a good result for Swallows but its better than losing. Why was this game not televised????? Home of g@ynarations were showing chiefs and superdiski as well were showing Pstars game, this is racism.

Ms Editor, what do you mean by this "n the 69th minute Sibusiso Kumalo was taken off for Tsutsulupa,"???

Thanks Loliwe 4 those 2 goals dat got us a point, I would hve luvd maximum points bt I thnk failure to get ol 3 points ws Gordon's fault, where ws Chenene n Chabangu? Ws it because of yellows cards or ws it jst 2 gve Maleka a run? How cn Mpho Maleka played for 90 minutes against Ajax in this crucial stage of da league title race? Da man has scored only 1 goal 4 da entire seasn so far. Him, Cisse n Machapa dnt even deserve 2 b on da team sheet, they should join us supporters on da grand stands. I hope we wl hve ol our gud players available on our next gme against pirates. I am a bleeding Bird 2nyt. A true swaiswai by Birth.

@ Simangaliso,no no no member get fact bfore blaming Gordon. He forced to change his line up bcos Chabangu and Chenene were suspended dats why they didn't play last night. He used Mpho as a target man , Nomvete was operating on left flank in absence of Chenene or Chabangu. Most of our players have 2 yellow cards and might miss one game respectively. The starting eleven will keep on changing till the end of the season. My blood is maroon.
