Kaizer Chiefs beat Platinum Stars in a League clash

Posted: 7 April 2012 Time: 22:11

Kaizer Chiefs ended Platinum Stars' six-match unbeaten run in the League with a 2-1 victory at Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Saturday night.

The victory, secured by first-half goals from Lehlohonolo Majoro and Abia Nale, sees the Amakhosi move up to fourth place in the table and keep their title hopes alive. Dikwena, who got their consolation goal via Patrick Malokase, drop one place to 11th.

Chiefs got off to the perfect start, opening the scoring in just the third minute. Siphiwe Tshabalala picked up a loose ball from Vuyo Mere and motored down the left flank before providing a perfect cross for the unmarked Lehlohonolo Majoro to head home from the middle.

Stars created some decent opportunities to get back on level terms, but on 25 minutes they found themselves 2-0 down: Abia Nale found space on the left of the penalty area and smashed home a left-footed shot that beat goalkeeper Jackson Mabokgwane at his near post.

Three minutes later Stars threatened to pull one back when Sipho Nkosi got onto the end of a free kick by Robert Ng'ambi and powered a header on target, but veteran goalkeeper Arthur Bartman pushed the ball around the post for a corner kick.

The half time score saw Chiefs 2-0 ahead, but their lead should have been halved 13 minutes into the second stanza: Sibusiso Msomi provided a great cross from the right flank to find Ng'ambi in the middle, but the attacking midfielder was unable to direct an effort on target from close range.

Finally, in the 77th minute, Stars got themselves back in the game. Substitute Patrick Malokase got his third goal in as many games, capitalising on some poor Chiefs defending to control a Vuyo Mere cross in the penalty area before firing a low shot into the back of the net.

Having dominated the second half, the hosts would have felt that a second goal to bring them on level terms was more than deserved, but they were unable to make good on the late chances they created, the best of which saw Lindokuhle Mbatha volley over the crossbar in the last minute of regulation time.

If only VV realised early that those Zimbos, are useless we wud be talking a difrent lingo. Mashamaite was steady @ the back. We must just build for the future and win the Nedbank Cup. I think the lig is out of reach now. the loss to Leopards will haunt us for a long tym. Anyway thank u boys for a gud result.

2nd half ......we didn't play well and we still lack that killer insinct . I wonder what would happen if Shabba gets injured or suspension . We're a one man team now . We rely too much on Majoro and Shabba now

The gud thing abt tonite result is dat Chibuku fans will not come here and open their asse*s. I can imagine how they wanted a PS equalizer that neva came. Now they will pretend as if they didn,t watch the game.Voetsek dimpsa ke lona.

Hold your horses Dunusa and Makakaniya, we are just playing to finish the lig and maintain a better position that Chiefs deserve.
Go on with fighting and scraching yours for lig. We shall observe at the end.

I blame vlermezovic 4 dis this situation we find our selves in 4 fielding non-deserving players leaving better players on the bench or in the stands 4 a example just look at our next match its gona be a completely diffrent squad ull c what I mean he must go back 2 serbia iv had enough of him khosi 4 lewe

It was obvious that we were going to win this one by hook or crook...after all its the way we play YOYO performance all the way KHOSIs, WIN/LOSE&DRAW so we already had the other two it was just a matter of starting with the sequence!!!! V.V u have killed our team so please just see the rest of ur contract off and go back to Serbia!!! How can the coach call for players or team to be consistent whereas he is not consistent with his selection? Next week it will be a completely new team and the excuse will be suspensions and we all know that he was still going to change the team anyway!!!

Tefu was a captain and he is not playing under VV y? NALE regardless him playing less games he is better than the LEBESE & MASANGO, y play NENGO? Y take out NALE instead of useless PACOW? What has DLADLA done to u? Please focus all ur efforts on to the nedbank cos the lig is gone!!!!
