AmaZulu thump Ajax Cape Town in the Cape

Posted: 28 March 2012 Time: 21:49

AmaZulu outgunned Ajax Cape Town 4-2 in an Absa Premiership match at the Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday night.

Ajax made the brighter start to the game, enjoying all the ball possession early on, while the visiting side looked unsettled and uncomfortable on the ball.

There were early chances for the Urban Warriors, but Brent Carelse fired wide from an acute angle and then Terror Fanteni reacted poorly when firing in a volley on goal with the result that Tapuwa Kapini made an easy save.

The KZN side were struggling to find any kind of momentum going forward and barely trouble the Ajax defence for the first half of the opening stanza.

But after 23 minutes they sounded a warning when Ayanda Dlamini burst through on goal, but on that occasion his shot was well saved by Sander Westerveld.

However, 10 minutes later and Westerveld put Nazier Allie under pressure from a back pass - the defender gave away possession cheaply and Goodman Dlamini nipped in quickly to slot past Westerveld.

Ajax had a couple of chances to pull a goal back, but Carelse got a volley all wrong while Khama Billiat fired wide from 25-yards.

The second half was action packed and drama filled as Ajax lost two players to red cards halfway through he stanza - first Granwlad Scott and then Fanteni.

But Matthew Booth gave Ajax hope, with 20 minutes left forcing the ball past Kapini from out on the left.

Usuthu were to hit back soon afterwards however when Tamsanqa Sangweni fired in an unbelievable free kick after 77 minutes.

Goodman Dlamini then made it 3-1 as he slotted home from close range after the Ajax defence had been caught on the counter attack.

Allie gave Ajax hope of a comeback when he bundled over the line from close range in the 89th minute, but Joseph Lekata applied the late sucker-punch with a goal in injury time.
