SuperSport United beat Golden Arrows

Posted: 18 February 2012 Time: 22:12

SuperSport United moved back up to second spot following a hard-fought 2-1 win against Golden Arrows at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday night.

Morgan Gould and Ashley Hartog found the back of the net for the visitors and Katlego Mashego got the only goal for the home side as both sides ended the match with 10 men.

The visitors dominated the early stages and it came as no surprise when Gould netted, heading a corner from Sameehg Doutie to beat Andre Petim with a powerful header.

Mabhuti Khenyeza had a chance to double the lead five minutes later when he was set up by Atusaye Nyondo and did well to turn inside the box, but he sent his shot wide of the post.

The home side eventually settled and found the equaliser in the 26th minute when Mashego received a pass from Elrio van Heerden and shrugged off a challenge from Gould before side-footing the ball past Ronwen Williams.

Gabuza had a golden opportunity to put the home side ahead in the 38th minute from a Sibusiso Hadebe cross, but the striker saw his header going just wide of the upright.

Arrows had the chance to draw first blood in the second half in the 52nd minute when United failed to clear a corner and the ball eventually fell for Thanduyise Khuboni, but he headed over the bar.

Mashego almost completed his brace in spectacular fashion nine minutes later when he tested Williams with an overhead strike, but the young goalkeeper was equal to the task as he palmed the ball away for a corner.

Hartog came on for Khenyeza in the 58th minute and the substitute spent just seven minutes on the park before regaining the lead for United as he met a Doutie cross with a glancing header that the diving Petim was unable to reach.

The visitors were then reduced to ten men in the 80th minute when Doutie picked up his second booking of the match, but Arrows were unable to make their extra man advantage count against a solid United defence.

Muhsin Ertugral’s side also found themselves a man down six minutes later when Mashego collected his second yellow card and that seemed to kill off their chances of getting back into the game.

Gabuza had a chance to grab a point for Arrows with a volley from the edge of the penalty area in the 89th minute, but he ballooned his shot over the crossbar as Arrows suffered their fourth straight defeat.

I still maintain that ridding ourselves of Khenyeza was one of the best moves in the tranfer market ever for Downs, even Cale wo'nt be missed by me, he's still battling to carry his body armour. mh....In Sir. Neeskens we beleive! Candysky!

I must lament the fact that for real Ex-Bucs players were a bit over the top, maybe they still have intelezi in their system. mh.

I see nil- nil score line @ the top of ur article & then continue to read 2-1 score line?

Anyway I said it last week after Arrows lost to Celtic that Muhsin Ertugral was happy with signings he did barely a month ago & proclaiming that they just don't sign. Now its time for delivery & wonder how long happy he will be?

With so many ex-Ajax stars, one expects the Wynberg Old Boy coached side to do well. Gavin Hunt is a strategic unlike most of the other coaches so one expects him to be at the top or very near there at the end of the season. This is turning out to be another cracker jack season at the top.
