Mamelodi Sundowns beat AmaZulu 1-0 in Durban

Posted: 15 February 2012 Time: 22:17

Mamelodi Sundowns kept up their push for the Absa Premiership title with a 1-0 win away to AmaZulu on Wednesday night.

Lebohang Mokoena, who recently signed a new contract with The Brazilians, was the hero on the night, scoring the only goal of the game with 10 minutes to go.

Sundowns were the first to launch attacks, with Punch Masenamela’s dazzling overlapping runs looking dangerous during the early stages.

Teko Modise had the first shot of the game in the sixth minute but it sailed over the bar, and that was followed by AmaZulu’s first threatening attack which saw Tshweu Mokoro try to play a through ball to the on-running Ayanda Dlamini, but he arrived late.

As the clock wound down in the first half, most of the play had taken place at the heart of the field and the goalkeepers had less to do, only called into action when taking goal kicks.

In the second half, the sides came out of the changing rooms with different tactics. Sundowns were the first to surge forward, once again with the blistering pace of Masenamela, but AmaZulu’s defence were up to the standard and managed to clear.

Ayanda Dlamini’s cross was then superbly cleared by Surprise Moriri, which resulted in a corner that Senamela sent in only for Dlamini to head wide.

In the 50th minute, a cross by Themba Zwane was well matched by Katlego Mphela’s header from centre of penalty area but a comfortable save by Tapuwa Kapini kept the sides locked at 0-0.

Debutant Anthony Laffor came on in the second half and sprinkled more life into Downs’ game as his speed and skill down the left flank meant more trouble for the Usuthu defence.

In the 79th minute the goal finally came; Themba Zwane’s cross was well tucked home by Mokoena from the six yard box.

After the goal, Sundowns looked revived as they threw waves of attack at the home side, with Laffor and Mokoena proving to be serious trouble down the flanks.

Moses Chavula should have leveled matters in the 82nd minute but was superbly denied by Moriri, who put his body on the line to concede a corner.

Well done boys.

Mphela must start from the bench up until he improves his work and start playing with the rest of the team.
Well done to the coach for putting in Mushekwi.

What took you so long to acknowlege the five point gap, phela this is the most important result of the evening, but kick-off reports about Black Label on top. Nx.

On a Yellow note....it was ugly but effective......now I understand better how it feels like to play crap, win by a 1-goal margin like .......s.

The game changed with the introduction of Mushekwi, further evidence that Mphela is not cut out for the way we play cause he lacks aggression and off the ball the man is non existent. Anyway the three points is all the important considering the long break.
We remain on top and Yellow like that ofcourse! Gcwala! Sky's the limit!

Again Kick Off is proving their poor overall PSL Coverage, only reporting about stupit Pirate win which doesnt make any differance and overlooking a team that is streching the lead by 5 points on top

Sundowns is really a small team with very few supporters, while always 4 people comment on their forums? Money cannot really buy everything.

@sweyts. The starting eleven had no natural defensive midfielder.( The headline should read " neeaskens is rude") lol lol What is your take on young Themba Zwane, his work rate specially in de second half.

CHEEEEEEEEEZE!!!!!!

YELLOW CITIZENS across the borders of Mzansi and beyond, we have got the team to go all the way. This team is good team, if things dont work out from the first selected eleven, we pack a super bench to turn it around. WOW, WOW, WOW!!!

Anthony 'SIKA LEKHEKHE' Laffor, Nyasha 'BULLDOZER' Mushekwi, damn what impact boys, I'm grateful gents.

Well done to the boys as a whole, well done to Sir Neeskens and the technical. Thats I how like it, please keep it up!

Amazulu is indeed a tough team to crack plus they play pretty football, they made it hard, they made it difficult, but MASANDAWANA we prevailed, YES WE PREVAILED and forward we go! I'm will celebrate three like any other. DAMN I'M HAPPY!

Yellow Is The Way!

Yellow I Was, Yellow I Am & Yellow I Will Remain! (Happily so)

Pat, exactly what I'm saying, it's like he plays with a groin injury or he's kakked in his pants.

I think he should be told to wear his shorts properly hi-up his waist, cause they seem to be restricting him on the take off. And ja, someone should tell him he's not a star, just that we have a serious shortage of them.

@Mamoduwe, Dawana....I still maintain that we deserve better, I mean....we've seen better before than this toothless Killer hound, who bites sometimes. Eysh, iyang'khenya le bhari!

Just think Andries Chicha Panyaza, Lovemore Rambo Chafunya, Bennet and cousin, Phil Masinga, even Letsena Phetla, Romario Molefe, then the Chukwu train, and Mudau, were all potent marksmen, who always showed more intent and hunger than our so called No.1 steleka of today. nx.

Welcome home Laffor, it'll get better from hereon.....Still Yellow!

Sika lekhekhe is ready and fit dawane. Cheezos is improving and enjoying every opportunity he's getteng. Modise is getting too much attention from the opposition, that where zwane must cum in.
Mwanjalo didn't do bad at all.

@Sweyts and all my YELLOW fellows, I concur with you about Katlego Mphela's lackluster performance, Killer believes he is all that, he doesnt work for the team, I'm very dissapointed with the way he carries himself in the field. I cant figure out the reason why he doesnt apply any pressure to the defenders or the goalkeeper, just low work rate by him . POOR POOR PERFORMANCE BY KILLER, he must be left out of the first team till he's hungry again! Kak game by KILLER!
