Free State Stars beat Santos

Posted: 3 December 2011 Time: 17:52

A goal in either half from Edward Mnqele and Kennedy Mweene saw Free State stars secure their fourth win in five games as they beat Santos 2-0 at the Charles Mopeli Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Ea Lla Koto made their intentions clear early on when Dove Wome drilled a 30-yard thunderbolt goalwards, but the effort sailed just over the crossbar.

Katlego Mashego came within inches of giving his side the lead on the half-hour mark when his 14-yard effort struck the right hand upright and bounced away from danger.

Finally, in the last minute of the half Stars were able to make their dominance pay off when Boitumelo Sekgobela set Mnqele through on goal and he made no mistake firing the ball past the goalkeeper.

The second half was more of the same with the first shot on goal coming in the 50th minute - Rudiger Gilbert let loose with a 20-yard thunderbolt that went narrowly wide.

In the 67th minute Sekgobela should really have doubled the Ea Lla Koto’s lead when he found himself in some space six yards out from goal, but he miscued his shot that went inches left of the upright.

In 77th minute Stars pressure paid off again when Zairon van Beulen fouled Sekgobela inside the box and the referee pointed to the spot. Mweene stepped up and coolly sent his opposing keeper the wrong way to double his side’s lead.

FSS are naking a name for themselves, credit must go to Bra Steve and his technical team. The boys can make PSL competitive by being level headed and not fear any team. I agree with Steve when He said if it wasn't for the referee they were gonna be at around 28-30 points.

Keep it up FSS, this shows that there no more the so called "Big Three".
