SuperSport United beat Santos 1-0

Posted: 1 November 2011 Time: 21:32

Ashley Hartog scored the only goal of the game as SuperSport United beat Santos 1-0 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Tuesday night.

The People’s Team can thank their goalkeeper Tshepo Motsoeneng for keeping the score down to 1-0 because he had a storming match.

After a strong first half showing, Motsoeneng could not keep out Hartog in the 57th minute when he pounced on an assist by the lively Atusaye Nyondo, and stuck his close-range shot into the top corner.

SuperSport did all the attacking in the first half, with Anthony Laffor and Nyondo the dangermen. Nyondo put a header wide while Motsoeneng tipped Laffor’s free-kick around the post.

The Santos shot-stopper then had to tip a Nyondo shot over his crossbar as SuperSport piled on the pressure.

Once the goal came, SuperSport looked more at ease on the ball and went close a few more times, but then the game got a little physical with some bruising tackles flying in from both sides as Santos showed their frustration.

Eleazar Rodgers came close with a last-minute headed attempt, but it went straight into the arms of Ronwen Williams.

Overall the home side deserved their win as Santos offered little going forward and struggled to find the creative spark needed to win a match.

CONSISTENCY IS SYNONYMOUS WITH SS UNITED, AM AFRAID AT THIS RATE THEY WILL REPEAT WHAT THEY DID A FEW SEASONS BACK, ONE THING'S FOR SURE, GAVE HUNT KNOWS HOW TO WIN THE LEAGUE!!!!!! MOST OF US ARE IN DENIAL CAUSE WE STILL HAVE HOPES OF OUR TEAM'S TOPPLING MATSATSANTSA BUT THERE COMES A TIME IN LIFE WHEN ONE NEEDS TO FACE REALITY, BASED ON THE CURRENT RESULTS, SS UNITED ARE IN WITH A GREAT CHANCE, THIS IS HOW THEY HAVE ALWAYS STARTED THEIR SEASON EVERYTIME THEY ENDED UP VICTORIOUS!!!!!

I am a Pirates man but it seems like Supersport is running away with it even though it is still too early but this is a good start to win the league.

im glad Mr Hunt is not complaining about the referees, after he lost some games he will be the most hated coach in the psl.
